ElGuapo's current automotive adventures. lol

Hey all,
It's been sometime since I've posted, dang Photobucket left a bad taste in my mouth. I've since started a Flickr account.
One car at a time. Here's the funner one.

1979 Ford fairmont.
This car has a little history. My buddy was searching for one of these ugly bastards for sometime. The appeal to him was the platform. It's a 4 door foxbody with the ability bolt in a 8.8 rear end and crazy light weight. Approx 27-2800.
My buddy and I ripped the motor out of a suburban. We picked up the rear end and trans from Denver. I actually found the car for him on Craigslist. The car was miss spelled. Lol
Ls 5.3 with a turbo 400. 78mm turbo, 80lb injectors on e85.
This thing is scary as hell considering it's power to weight ratio.
I've started by painting the wheels black. Painting the window trim and I'm currently waiting on the window tint to be replaced.
Before.
https://flic.kr/p/Y4gbWM
https://flic.kr/p/Z5rTWr
After painting the wheels, window trim, and the grill.

I'll post some more pictures with better lighting and the fresh tint.
The plans are to clean it up, get the heater working, and beat on it.

Ima put a hellcat eater emblem on it. Hahaha.
It did have a 90s sticker that said the power of pride on it with the flag behind it/ came off for fear of looking like a tiki torch walker. Lol

Flickr is about a pos/ not finding how to post properly. Damn you Photobucket/ I hate change.

Re: ElGuapo's current automotive adventures. lol

I'm having a tough time finding ow to directly load the pictures/ sorry guys, but for now I guess it's clicking the links. Blacked out the window trim. Replaced tint and murdered the wheels out. Im happy with the results.
Next is to finish painting things black. Likely bumpers are next along with door handles and the front/ rear windows.
Interior is going to get a real good cleaning and I'm going to instal some type of obd2 gauge set up to a cheap android tablet. This way I can see speed, tach, and temps. Also going to replace the heater core.
This is going to be the shiniest turd ever.

Re: ElGuapo's current automotive adventures. lol

So to clarify...... this is a buddy's Fairmont that you're helping build?

Definitely unique and I love the spank this must issue to the Ford peeps..... seems we're seeing alot of LS swaps finding their way into Mustangs and the like..... wonder why?

Does it have an 8.8 under it then? Or is that in the plans yet?

It's just one of those "its so ugly it's cool" kind of cars. Please tell me it'll get one of those huge speed wings on the trunk!

How much fun money do you estimate has been tossed at this project so far?

**EDIT** Damn...... I just googled photos for "ford fairmont build". There's a shit-ton of them! You guys aren't alone!

Re: ElGuapo's current automotive adventures. lol

Story on the car is I traded a bagged 63 falcon to my buddy for this.
He had been searching for one of these for a while and I found the car on Craigslist. We went that day to pick it up. I've been involved with the car, but really he built it.
There's a good 9k into this thing including the $800 to buy the car lol.
8.8 rear end, th400, badass stall, complete fuel, cam, suspension, brakes...stuff adds up unfortunately.
On low boost it will serve as a fun car to scare my friends and family with. Also, lol I know the wing you're talking about. Haha/ no wing because I want to put as little money into this as possible

Re: ElGuapo's current automotive adventures. lol

While I couldn't justify throwing $9K at ANY Ford much less an 80's Fairmont...... The good part is after a guy builds something like this and wants to move on, the majority of the money is in parts he can put into a different vehicle build, and the majority of the rest may be good craigslist fodder, leaving a shell that isn't worth more than scrap anyway.

A different car you say...
https://flic.kr/p/Y4q6Sw
Here's my 94 ss Impala. I've lowered the car with hotchkis springs/ Bilstein shocks, polished it, and put a nice sound system on it.
I'll likely leave this thing nine stock/ but I've thought about it.
I've also thought about putting these parts into a notch box body mustang 87-93. I know of one just trying to justify spending monay

Re: ElGuapo's current automotive adventures. lol

Best cop car ever. Huge room inside, big car, deceptive in it's handling, good brakes, tight in the corners, 130 mph with ease and control. The biggest of crooks was comfy (and safe) sitting in the back seat unlike these new Taurus/Interceptors where anyone over 5'10" has to sit sideways, twisted at the waist putting the cuffs in a massive bind. Ford claims they had a panel of cops participate in the design of the new Interceptor...... every one of them must have been of Asian or Ethiopian heritage. The majority of our SWAT guys can't fit in to drive the damn things.

But I digress.........

Re: ElGuapo's current automotive adventures. lol

Lol I hear ya.
I've loved these impalas for years. I knew I wanted a super clean one and this one popped up. I spoke with the owner and worked him for like a month. Actually went to see the car twice. Couldn't be happier with it, and the woman loves it so it's a win win.
The notch I was curious in has sold.
Not sure what I want next. I got some 5 lug wheels for the scaremont so that's next on the modification list.

Re: ElGuapo's current automotive adventures. lol

I've haven't had much time for the car with work and studying for a big license, but I have decided to upgrade to a 5 lug bolt pattern after getting some wheels and tires dirt cheap froma friend.
I'll be converting to 5lug over the winter, and putting a heater core in.
I purchased a tablet for $90 and a Bluetooth obd2 connector to give me a tach, speedo, and temp gauge. Voltage does not read right, but I confirmed tach, temp with the control module vi tuning software.
I upgraded the headlights yeaterday(not pictured) but god what an upgrade over the stock garbage. Ya I know I should be putting money into this car but it's been pretty satisfying.

Interior shot of the bucket. Using Folex cleaner, a horse hair brush and my shop vac this thing cleared up well
