88 xj, 4x4, d30. ok cant get the rubber out of the bumpstop so i can access the retaining bolt. any suggestions?

Assuming your speaking of the bump-stops for the front suspension.
I haven't pulled them, but I had water in one and tried to pull it by hand and couldn't. But pulling it hard enough was able to open up a crack enough for the water to drain.
I'm guess if you put a straight edge screw-driver in between the rubber bump-stop and collar and levered it downward you'd probably be able to inch it out.

Hit it with a hammer. If it doesn't work, repeat the process with increasingly larger hammers.

When I took of the front upper bump stops I just used a big pipe wrench and a breaker bar and a whole bunch of WD40.
I did not know that the rubber part came off. Mine didnt.

so you just unscrewed the whole collar from the upper tower part?

what part came right off though? the rubber part or the metal collar that the rubber things in?

I have an '88. To get my bumpstops out I used a pipe wrench on the metal part just above the rubber. They unscrew. No need to pull the rubber apart. The only problem was getting the pipe wrench through the coil spring. I used a couple of "spring-lox", made by Superior, to seperate the coils enough to fit the wrench through.

okay got it all, just put the coil spacers in now im jsut having trouble adjusting the axle for the control arms to situate properly
