NEW Sierra Fest Dates: Rubicon Aug 8-11, Deer Valley Aug 12-14

Just got the OK from the boss, I'll be there for the Rubicon portion of the trip. I'm a 'Con virgin as well and have been looking forward to making this run for about the past 15 years now. Why do the good runs always seem to end up on or around my anniversary? I spent my anniversary at Swamp Lake last year.

Fortunately the boss is understanding... :loveu:

whos all going up to the con mon thru weds anyway?

i might even head up sunday night and camp at the loon side so i dont have to wake up early...

We are squeezing this run in between 2 of the Jeep Jamborees. The springs may be spoken for. Also, that makes for a long first day on the trail and I really don't want to move camp once we get set up.

I understand the long day of wheeling but since they have stacked the trail before winter (trail is extremely easy in most spots) it should make for easy wheelin even for moderate rigs. Strategically placed built rigs with experienced drivers in the pack would help. Should take a group of 10 or so rigs about 5.5 hours to get to the Springs the way the trail is now.

And just FYI:
59th Annual Jeepers Jamboree - July 28-31, 2011
34th Annual Jeep Jamboree - August 5-7, 2011

This post was in response to my question about all the different Jeep Jamborees on the trail. From Pirate:

Jeepers jamboree Inc. does two runs, this year they will be:

July 28-31 and August 5-7. During those weekends the trail will be closed to other traffic.

JJUSA is a completely different company, they have their annual Rubicon run on Augsut 12-14. THe trail remains open during the Aug 12-14 weekend.

Again, I don't want to count on the Springs to be available at that time. Buck Island is way nicer to camp at anyway. More things to do on our off day on Tuesday.

Hopefully we see you out there.

More than likely I'll be towing my rig up. Any suggestions on where to securely store a tow rig and trailer?

edit: Forgot to mention so far I'm down for the 'con portion only.

You can park your tow rig near the Loon Lake staging area or at the Chalet about a mile up the road. As far as being secure, haven't heard of many break-ins up there but it is always possible. You would have to either drive the trail backwards, or drive back to Loon Lake via Hwy 89 and 50 to get back to your tow rig. A bit of a long drive if you ask me. There will probably be some other guys doing the same thing so you should be OK either way.

One suggestion was made many years ago to park your tow rig at one of the casinos in South Lake Tahoe, then drive to the trailhead. The con will dump you right at Lake Tahoe, about 30 minutes away from the casinos. The casino lots are a bit more secure than the staging area.

Anyone from the bay area willing to let me follow them up there to be there on time (10:00 am on the 8th)? I may not go through to the deer vally trip, I'll decide at the time.
