low oil pressure at operating temp

I had a similar situation with the 2000 I just picked up. Good (40psi) oil pressure on startup, and dropped as it warmed up. Talked to a Chrysler tech at work, and looked up some info. The oil pressure switches in these get real sensitive to temperature over time. If you have access to scan...

    Can't shift out of Park

I see this as being the issue as well, but the only cable I've ever heard of referred to the "detent" is the cable running from the throttle body to the transmission to control shifts under load. Now that we are on the same page, is there an adjustment to this cable or delete "mod" for this? I...

    Can't shift out of Park

the detent cable assists in controlling the shift points under load, and shouldn't have anything to do with being able to move the shifter out of the Park position.

    Can't shift out of Park

when we re-installed the NSS, we made sure it would start in park and neutral, as well as the reverse lights work, but if i'm not mistaken, the main issue is the release for the shifter to come out of park?

    86 MJ swap options

very true.... i have very little in it, and with the amount of rust on it, i wouldnt be able to get much out of it. but, the cab itself is fine, the bed is going to get scrapped and the frame rails are fine. its a perfect shell to build a truggy. i just want some more power with as little...

    86 MJ swap options

before i jump to v8 power, i would really just prefer building a decent 4.0/4.6 to put in. my biggest concern is the firewall and core support stuff. i am still somewhat confused. i know the 2.8 to 4.0 swap is difficult, but why would the firewall be different for the 2.5? is it because of motor...

    86 MJ swap options

i bought a winter beater with potential to be a trail rig when spring comes around. but the truck came with the little 2.5L and AX4. when i put my full-size axles and larger tires on it, i need more power. i have heard that to fit the 4.0 in the older body the firewall and core support need to...

    Sputtering Problem (sorta long)

from past experience i know that if your tps isn't functioning properly your transmission will not shift worth a darn. the transmission uses the tps to tell it when exactly to shift. i had a similar issue on my 89 renix jeep i replaced the tps and it worked fine. i havent had a problem with it...

    maybe a short?

it may be a dumb idea, but a wheelin buddy of mine (chevy guy) told me that in order to make the starter work all i had to do is ground that little wire out to engage the starter. i ran some heavier gauge speaker wire from a switch to my firewall ground and connected the wire that went from the...

    maybe a short?

my 89 is currently doing something similar. (annoying the crap outta me) i just came back from 6 months of training for the national guard and now i dont have transportation. i got it to crank a couple of times the other night by grounding the little wire from the solenoid to the negative...

    Wet Trunk/Hatch Under Carpet

i had similar problems with my 87 limited(R.I.P.) and i found the majority of the moisture to come in from the seams around the rear wheel wells under that foam sealant. sounds like a bit of a mess. good luck with it.

starter and tranny bolts wont stay in....help?

last year i was unfortunate enough to hydrolock my motor and snap a rod in two, sending one half through the side of the block causing me to replace the ol' 89 4.0 block with a newer nvh 4.0 block out of a 99 xj. ever since in order to remain driveable, i have to crawl underneith and re-torque...

    XJ 4.0 Block swap?

the motor is all together... i ran into a torque converter issue and still dont have my tranny back in. i turn the key tomorrow to see how it all works and if it works. i ended up using the 99 block and head and re-used the old manifolds, sensors, and water pump. the newer water pumps protrude...

    87' with d44s

my 87 limited had a dana 44 and trac-loc but didnt have a factory hitch. it had a u-haul hitch and aftermarket wiring cause it didnt originally have the factory tow package. the only way to find out is to crawl underneath and look. the easiest way to tell is bolt placement on the diff. cover. i...

    Front stabilizer issue

i had a small accident in my last xj (an 87) and managed to twist the swaybar a bit. and after the accident i bought another vehicle to replace it as my daily driver and made it a trail rig. insted of replacing it i removed it. and through this all i can tell you that without the swauybar...

Gas in oil & Ultra rich exhaust !!!

sounds alot like my 89 when i first got it. didnt have the fuel in oil issue though. the oem plastic vacum lines like to get really brittle and crack. mine had a small crack in it that i couldnt find myself, and ended up wasting 60 bucks at a repair shop to have them put a 50cent pice of hose in...
