    April Workday

The April 20th workday is about 2 weeks out, hopefully we have a good turn out. I don't have my work schedule for that week yet so I don't know if I will be able to make it out, but I hope to be out there.

Next Weekend, March 16th-17th Work Weekend

If anyone is interested there is a workday coming up next weekend. It will be a heavy workload with the help of John Deere/Tread Lightly installing information kiosks and guide-rail (6x6 wood railing) at various trail heads/parking lots. Work will be Saturday per usual, but will also carry over...

    February 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

I have work today so I know I won't be able to make it out for the 9th CROC day. The work load for later in February depends on what gets done on the 9th. The plans to do the trail head (parking lot) repairs opening weekend has been moved up to the March workday so we all ready have an idea of...

    February 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

For the past 3 years I have made a point to try to be at every single workday (I think my attendance is around 95%), rain or shine, heavy work load or light. But with my possible changes in employment it kind of leaves it up in the air for me. I plan on attending but there are too many unknowns...

SEC Contributes to First Uwharrie Workday of 2013

Sorry for my delayed reply, life has been a little crazy the past couple days. Nick did a great job on the Bobcat, he is a very quick learner. My original intent was for someone to get some drive time in operating the Bobcat between guard rail installation sites. But after I smashed my shin...

    February 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

The second workday of 2013 is currently scheduled for February 23rd during the seasonal trail closure. A workload has not been established yet, but the guard rail install on Dutch John that got cancelled during the last workday may be on the list. And depending on how much rail CROC gets put up...

    January 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

I don't have an answer for that question, but I am getting one so I should know sometime tomorrow. I will let you know as soon as I find out something official. Leg is doing better, so thoughts and prayers that it isn't fractured seem to be working.

    January 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

I drove out to Kannapolis and met up with the Cagle's at RS Braswell Bobcat at 10:30 and then headed out to Uwharrie. We unloaded at the double parking lot then headed to the spray field to get guard rail (25 footers) and posts. Loaded those up and headed back to the double parking lot and...

    January 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

Actually Terry Savery got back to me a little bit later via e-mail, here is the section of the e-mail concerning Friday: So the workday is still on go, looking forward to seeing everyone out on the trails. At least it won't be sleeting Saturday, we did that 2 years back on a December workday...

    January 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

I have been talking with Terry Savery of the forest service about the weather issue and she is waiting to see a couple of the updated weather forecasts tonight and tomorrow morning before making a decision about the weather. And she does have a replacement to haul the Bobcat, and will also be...

    January 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

Right now I am keeping an eye on the weather. They are currently calling for a 70% chance of rain Friday, so its a waiting game to see what happens. It has called for a 50% chance of rain before on a Friday before a workday, and it didn't rain until the after I had parked the Bobcat and was at...

    January 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

Its great to bring tools out to the workdays, but if you don't have tools to bring don't worry. As long as you bring yourself dressed for the weather ready to work that is what counts. I have seen volunteers in the past go way out of their way to bring a bunch of tools and not one get touched...

    Website Now Up!

Both the High-Bandwidth (FLASH) and Low-Bandwidth (HTML) websites are up. The website can be accessed via phone or computer so no one is left in the dark so to speak. http://www.uorv.org (I usually favor FLASH over HTML, but this time around I kinda like the HTML site better)

    January 2013 Off-Season Volunteer Workday

Well if by some miracle we get all the guard rail dragged Friday, and take care of any side projects that come up, we will have at least an hour head start. Then if we actually do have 20+ people show up and don't have any delays we might get done closer to 2-2:30 versus 3:30 or later. The...
