izuzu 12 bolt into a XJ

The Isuzu 12 bolt comes in at least 3 widths. Early Amigo/Trooper were 58" - 59" WMS to WMS, 3" tubes with disk brakes with an ebrake lever on the calipers. '92 - '94 Trooper and some '95's use a ~ 61" wide axle w/ 3.5" tubes set up for coil springs. The rear disks changed a bit. They are...

    AW4 value?

I haven't checked lately, but a year or two ago, AW4's were dirt cheap on Ebay. I've bought two ('98 and '99) low mileage AW4's on ebay in the last few years. I paid $200 for each of them including the shipping charges FWIW. That's a big part of the reason I swapped to an AW4/D300 rather than...

    AW4 shift behavior

Thanks. I have compression in 3rd & 4th only when in 'D'. I thought I had read that '3' will give you compression braking in 2nd gear, and '2/1' braking down to 1st. I'm thinking of switching to an Art Carr gated shifter. I about lost it on Double Whammy a couple weeks ago. I want to be...

    AW4 shift behavior

I don't have a stock shifter. I used the Geartronic for manual shifting. The plan was to use the bump-shift portion of it for shifting, but the lack of compression braking is giving me second thoughts. Isuzu Amigo. --Dan

    AW4 shift behavior

I've been running and AW4 for a little over a year now and need to update my shifting for offroad use. Right now, I'm using a Volvo S60 Geartronic shifter. Basically, I can only shift as far as 'D', then the lever slides over and you can bump it fore and aft to up/down shift. That part is not...

    Bulletproof AW4?

I found his writeup when I was working on my driveline swap and ended up doing the same thing. Only thing I would like to add to it is lowering the oil pickup a little bit as well, but haven't taken the time to figure it out. --Dan

Buick 3800 in a rear wheel drive???

The 3800 bell is the standard GM 60 deg V6 pattern, so yeah, same as 2.8, 3.1, 3.4. Not sure if there was a manual FWD or not, but the f-body used the series II 3800 as well so a flywheel will work from that. Note though, the L67 SC motor has a differently balanced flexplate, so the non-SC...

Buick 3800 in a rear wheel drive???

Just stumbled onto this old thread.... It's not an XJ, but I am putting a series II 3800SC into a RWD using an AW4/Klune/D300 combo. I've got a thread on it going on another board. Still have a lot to finish. It's definitely not a bolt-in, but that means most all will apply to an XJ as...

    AW-4 Kick down cable.....

As Josh said, it modulates line pressure. Soft shifts at light throttle, firmer shifts with more throttle. If you leave it un-hooked, full-power shifts will still be soft and burn up clutches faster. I suppose though, that you could pin the cable at full draw (i.e., at WOT). I don't know...

    Help: Radius Arm's

No, it doesn't hit. Track bar locates it laterally, and there is room for twist when an arm is stuffed up to the bumpstop. --Dan

    Help: Radius Arm's

Mine are I-beams, bent to clear the frame and mount up inside the frame rail. Standard bushings in front and behind the axle, and a big RE bearing at the frame. Few pics: Flex is really pretty good, but nothing stellar. Much better than the previous IFS. I did make allowances to...

    Dana 300 Install?

What D300 do you have? I think for most, the same sensor from a 231, 241, etc will fit the long output D300. I've been kinda looking for the same thing, but I need to retain the mechanical speedo drive. Jags That Run has a sensor that will work I think...

1996+ AW4 ECM or TCM? Auto swap.

I'm using a '99 in mine. The connectors on this are different than the other's I've seen (pics only). The pins themselves may be the same though. I'm acutally using a different connector body. The pins pull out pretty easily with a small jewelers screwdriver. If the pins aren't the same...

    WTB: 2.5 / AW4 bell housing

No, it's definitely removable. I know I can get a bell for it with the GM 60 deg V6 pattern brand new from Isuzu, but they're about $350 I think. I still don't know for sure if the 2.5/AW4 bell exists. Don't want to chance buying one from a junkyard unseen either. --Dan

    WTB: 2.5 / AW4 bell housing

It does seem rare, but I have searched before for info on it and they do exist. At least, I've found just as many posts saying they do exist and/or have one as I've found that said the combo doesn't exist. I found a place on car-parts.com that says they have one, but they want something like...

    WTB: 2.5 / AW4 bell housing

Looking for an AW4 bellhousing to mate to the 2.5. I believe this combo was only available in '87 - '90. If you've got one, let me know. Email or PM is fine. thanks --Dan dan @ houlster.com

    4:1 transfer case's

I've always seen them both for the same price. These places have them for $1600 or less, either ratio. https://peakempire.com/store/default.php?cPath=51 http://www.mikegreen4x4.com/klune_v/index.htm I got a 4:1 Klune, lightly used for $1300 with the cable shifter and optional mounting foot. --Dan

    99 AW4 to replace 94 AW4

I think it should work for you. The '99 has more speed sensors I think. 3 total. One in the bell housing reads the flexplate, a 2nd in the front of the tranny measuring input rpm and the 3rd at the output end. Wiring harness will be different, but the solenoids are still the same ~12 ohm...
