To my knowledge, the unit under your back seat is the ABS computer (for the Bendix-9 or -10 system). If you already cut the ABS lines, ABS is not functional on your car anymore. In that case, the only thing that the ABS computer does, is monitor the pressure in the combined ABS/brake system and...
Even if the voltage is o.k. at the seats, it does not necessarily mean that the connection is o.k. I have had the same issue: all voltages and connections seemed o.k., but the seats were as dead as a dodo.
Connect one seat directly to your battery and see if this makes any difference. It did...
Do a search on Bendix ABS and you'll find all sorts of info, including conversion tips.
The master cilinder and abs pump/motor assembly are covered by a lifetime warranty as part of recall 702.
My wife currently ows a 91XJ, which she uses mainly for short distances (approx 100 miles per week). I am planning to replace it with a newer, like '99 or newer, Grand Cherokee which will then be used as our family car (with avg of 200 miles/week).
The main reasons why I want to get rid of the...
I agree with aardvark. Another common issue, especially with older cars, are corroded/dirty toner rings. You may also check the spacing between wheel sensor and toner ring.
It means that there is a problem with your ABS! The problem can be anything. Don't you notice any strange driving / steering behavior, like pulling to one side when braking, ABS kicking in when not necessary etc?
As soon as the 'check antilock' light comes on, your ABS is not operational...
Well, I can assure that diesel does not mean slow and bad smell. I had a Volkswagen Passat 1.9 TurboDieselInjection before, and I really liked it a lot. Driving approx 1000 km (approx 600 miles) on one tank of diesel is one of the advantages.
As to my bio-aspirations: I am investigating the...
Hi guys,
I am planning to convert a (Grand) Cherokee diesel to enable it to run on vegetable oil. Why? For the fun of it, for cost reduction and to do something good for the environment.
However, I haven't bought a vehicle yet and before I do that, I need to know one thing:
What brand/type...
I have had the same on my 91 XJ.
Possible causes:
- corroded/dirty ABS rings
- faulty/displaced sensor
Not all sensors are adjustable, but even the non-adjustable ones should be placed with extreme accuracy.
If you want to disable the system, I suggest that you disconnect a wheel sensor (you...
Thanks for your replies. I think that the 'self adjusting' is not the case, as my wife stated that she did not drive in reverse.
I will see how it develops and subject the drums to a closer inspection if the problem re-occurs.
Many thanks,
Andre
My wife owns a '91 XJ with the infamous Bendix-9 ABS/brake system.
(BTW: I know that it is a POS system and that I should get it replaced).
When my wife started the car this afternoon, she felt that brake pedal was rock hard an hardly giving in under pressure. When she drove away, she had the...
If your verhicel has ABS, it is probably the Bendix-9 or 10 system, which has a recall (#702) for the master cylinder and ABS pump/motor assembly. Both have a lifetime warranty.
I have a 91 Xj, and the rear defroser is going bad. One or two wires on the rear window seem not to work. However, there is no visible physical damage. Any ideas about the cause or solution of this problem? Thanks, André
Hello guys,
I own a '91 XJ with remote keyless entry system. It seems that the battery in th transmitter has run out. How can I open the transmitter to replace the batteries?
Thanks,
André
I just wanted to install a baby seat (MaxiCosi, see http://www.maxi-cosi.nl/) in my '91 XJ, but on all seats (both front and rear) the seat belts are too short to install the baby seat properly.
Any ideas of how I might fix this? I know that seat belt extensions are commercially available, but...
Check fuse of course, but I think that the wiper is on the same fuse with other lighting etc. So if you have no other malfunctions, it's probably not the fuse.
Check the wiring. As far as I know, it run underneath the carpet which is THE place where moisture is trapped, causing the wiring to go...
