I was walking past some early 90's dakotas at the junkyard and got to thinking about the tail lights. The MJ was axed so the Dakota could be produced...I'm wondering if the lights were carried over for a year or two as they looked somewhat similar. Might make finding spares a bit easier.
I'm redoing all the steering today(yesterday)because it's insanely loose at the wheel. 97, 2wd so no axle business up front. Everything was going smoothly until I got to the ball joints. I figured out I just needed more force but then they came out. With severe persuasion. With more persuasion I...
Just moved to Simpsonville from South Florida. I didn't really ever meet any other Jeepers down there but I'd like to hang out with some now that I'm up here. Are there any NAXJA members in the area? My XJ is only 2wd, so I don't really take it off road. Eventually I'd like to get one with 4wd...
97 XJ with a rebuilt 4.6. The engine has started and runs, but I dont want to run the break-in procedures without working gauges. The story so far:
- I adding a mechanical oil gauge to run alongside and verify the readings I was getting on the dash before I rebuilt the engine. I at first I ran...
I noticed that I had torqued down the number 1 main cap on backward. I didn't try to start the engine, but it was turned around 10-15 times by hand. Should I replace the bearing? If so, do I need to replace the upper bearing as well? They are standard size bearings.
I'd like to not have to buy...
97 4.6 with an isky cam and a scat 4.2 crank. I'm assuming the timing is stock because the shop that built it the first time had no idea that you could stroke a 4.0 and they didnt have the timing card for a custom ground cam. I can get it if that will change the answer to my question though...
97 4.0. I've had a large a/c leak (thanks mech. fan) for about 7 years and Im finally getting around to fixing it. How much of the system should be flat out replaced? Ive got a new compressor, accumulator, and the line that was sliced. How necessary will it be that I replace most of the system...
97 AX15, 2wd. Is there such a thing that you can plug up the end of the transmission while towing, taking the engine in and out, and while the tranny is at steep angles while the ds is out to prevent losing transmission fluid? I'm told about one, but no one knows where to get it and general...
MY fiance owns a 2001 Avalon with 131k miles. V6, top of the line. In the few months we've had it, its been a great 9 yr old car. (Smelled gass through the a/c vents for a few days then went away, CD has eaten a CD and wont work or spit it out, sunroof doesnt always work). Her Grandfather back...
I dont remember seeing this hole the last time I had everything apart. It doesnt looked factory installed. Its directly behind the cam gear. The pushrod doesnt look bent and there were no unexplained noises when it was running. The engine is being torn down to determine a low oil pressure issue...
Background - Aging 97 XJ with super sloppy steering. Im shooting for a factory performance version type XJ with more modern systems and more performance. Think late nineties R/T, along the lines of a Dakota R/T. Or current SRT vehicles.
Steering - My 13 year old steering that I dont think has...
I'm redoing my steering and based on rockauto there are service grade and "professional" grade tie rod ends. Obviously the professional are more beefy, and therefore more money. I do zero wheeling with this one, and am doing this to eliminate slop so Im looking for stock or a little better...
I just installed a mech oil gauge and now my stock gauges arent working. It still has lights, the turn signals flash (on the cluster) and I can still dim the lights. The odometer isnt on either. I can use cruise control but the light on the cluster does not come on. The mech gauges and the stock...
I read over in the junkyard thread that someone said some ZJ years steering boxes were direct bolt-in and provided better feel and handling. I have never read anything in the last four years about this, has anyone heard about this or tried it? It seems like most upgrades have been known since...
Anyone have a better way of doing this? I disconnected everything on the front axle short of the brake lines, but the freakin pan still wont come out! Ive even got a bottle jack pushing the axle away from the body, but the bottom of the transmission is still holding the pan there. Im changing...
97 4.0 (4.6:thumbup:) AX15 came without cruise, grabbed a junkyard set and it worked perfectly. Later in the day it stopped working and the dash light wont come on. I think I have a vac problem as I only have defrost, but the cruise did work for a couple different trips. I havent checked the vac...
I just got a 95 3000gt. It has the non pop-up head lights. They were clearcoated at one point and time, but now it is cracking off everywhere. Does anyone know how I could fix the problem without just taking them to the dealership or a paint shop? Im thinking wetsanding and reapplying, but dont...
Built a stroker in my 97 about a year ago. It ran fine for the first 4-5k miles. Before the stroker I had an issue where I could drive it normally, turn it off, and it would stumble after I shifted to second. The stumble would go away as soon as I let off the gas(shifting into thrid for...
I did a stroker about 4500 miles ago, and am running Rotella 15w40 oil. If its cold outside the engine makes a lot of noise like all the oil has seaped down. Once it runs for a few seconds the oil pressure comes up like normal and the sound goes away. It didnt have the problem at any period...
I been doing the math in my head....The KJ has an 8.25, my XJ has an 8.25. Whats stopping me from putting the rear disks on my XJ? Ive heard it somewhere that you will need 16 rims to clear the rear disks...I already have KJ 16 inchers on, so no problem there. I havent looked into it too much...
