    Trying to find flexplate

Hey everybody! Thanks to you guys (and the search function) I have determined I've got a bad flexplate. What I'd like to know is...For those who have replaced theirs recently, where did you get it and how much did you pay for it? Thanks in advance for your replies! 96 XJ Country, 4.0, AW4, 4"...

Removing top tranny to radiator line on 91' HO

A "flare nut wrench" would be preferable but not totally necessary. You can use an open-end wrench...just be careful not to round off the nut.

    Running hot

Unless you bought it new and used nothing but distilled water + coolant in the radiator, I can almost guarantee you the radiator core is clogged. I had the same problem and replaced everything else first. Tried radiator flushes and even lime-a-way. When I busted a end cap off the old rad, it was...

Best year to purchase: Already searched

As a lot of folks on this forum will probably tell you, a 4.0 with 130k is just getting broken in! Seriously though, as long as it was maintained reasonably well, it's probably not even halfway through it's lifespan. If you're really worried about it, I guess you could do a compression check on it.

Best year to purchase: Already searched

Here's another vote for the '96. When I started looking for an XJ about a year ago, I went through the same delimma: What year, what trim level, drivetrain, etc. After extensive forum searching and checking out as many different XJs as I could, I decided on a '96 4DR, 4.0, AW4, NP231. I like the...

    Best Cat-Back

Just recently installed Rusty's system with the delta flow 50 series muffler. The only problems I ran into were due to the exhaust system the previous owner installed that caused the tailpipe to be too short. That was easily remedied with a short extension tube. The other problem was the...

AW4 is slipping when warmed up, any thoughts?

I had a similar problem with mine shortly after I got her. It seemed that it was serviced at a jeep dealership just before I bought it (at 120,000 miles) and the morons put Chrysler ATF in it instead of Dexron III. I unhooked the return line to the trans from the radiator cooler and flushed the...

    Jeep Cherokee vs. Chevy Silverado

Please let me clarify my statement: The money is for correcting the mistakes made while building up the vehicle when you really don't know what you want or need. Is that better?

Yes it will, just a couple of extra steps during installation.

Be pissed at Rustys or UPS for my AAL order? Need Help

This is almost the same explanation I got regarding estimated delivery dates. It all makes sense to me. Everyone I've ever talked to at Rusty's including Rusty himself has been really great as far as customer service goes. My most recent order showed an estimated delivery date of 04-10-06 in the...

    Rear Hitch Install

I second the HiddenHitch. You can get it at etrailer.com and it comes with everything you need to install it. What's really nice is it tucks up underneath with only the 2" reciever poking out under the bumper.

BTW, there should be a listing of all the bulbs in your owners manual under "maintaining your vehicle".

Just replaced them on my '96. They were 168's. Not sure if it's the same on a '98 but probably so...

hi-lift mount for stock roof rack?

Sorry...I guess it depends on where and how it's mounted. I grabbed the rear crossbar on my stock rack and it came off in my hand. I sure wouldn't trust it for my hi-lift. BTW, the all-cast iron hi-lifts are pretty heavy.

    Jeep Cherokee vs. Chevy Silverado

Can't do much real wheelin' on trails with a big honkin' LWB pickup. On the other hand, I guess it would look ok in the parking lot. Oh yeah...the XJ will probably still be running long after Chevy is sitting in the local pick-ur-part yard.
