    Recommendations for a Lift Kit

I never did get an answer. After doing the research, I found that the lift was going to be 2" or go huge and do a bunch of relocation. The limiting factor seems to have been the front CV joints. I had trouble finding armor that I didn't need to make, so I scrapped the idea. Eventually, I sold...

Project Scope Creep: Ham Radio Install, Kenwood TM-V71A

Pix work fine on WIN10 and Chrome. Place to avoid is passenger side under the rear seat. A buddy of mine lost a nice dualbander in his '89 when the muffler rusted out on top and superheated the radio (and carpet, and seat cushion...) ;)

    Braided ground cable (I assume)

    Here's a link about why it's there. https://k0bg.com/bonding.html

    Braided ground cable (I assume)

It's purpose is to ground the exhaust system to prevent the exhaust system from becoming an electrical noise radiator. If you don't have a 2-way in the vehicle, it's probably not that important. HELP makes pre-made ground straps for just this purpose.

Funeral for the Colorado Chapter of NAXJA

Sorry to hear of it's passing. I was a member of the ColoradoXJ Yahoo Group, and Joined NAXJA at behest of a number of members there who were trying to form a Chapter here. Only managed to make it to 1 CO event, but it was an adventure. Thanks!

What do you guys use for parts cleaner chemicals?

I use mineral spirits. You get explosion hazards when you vaporize or atomize a solvent. Manuals stopped recommending gasoline because of the low vapor temp, and extolled using other solvents. The flash point of Mineral Spirits and Diesel are similar. I wonder why they recommend water based...

    Bilsteins on Rusty’s leafs

I agree, but I've found it hard to measure up travel with leafs. When a shock is operated too close to bump or jounce it doesn't last long. I would take the stackup value (lift value of springs, shackles, blocks<shudder>), and use that as a basis to tentatively select a set of shocks. Then...

    Mystery Lift Project Gone Awry

The year will help. If you off-road, it pays to use a longer shackle and less spring. This allows the room for the spring to flex. A large arch spring and a short shackle will limit your travel. Also more spring travel gives you a better ride, and less spring fatigue. The longer wheelbase...

    The ol' death wobble

I agree with most of what I read. 6" with 3" spring, 3" spacer, and no drop bracket is old school. OK for the trail, but not optimal for the street. Harsh ride and poor geometry are the highlights of that kind of lift. Also, the 3" spacer, is like a poor man's bump stop; you will limit your...

    Tire Chains

I've used cables, chains, an v-bar chains. The cables are a step up from nothing are a serious improvement over nothing, and the easiest to install. Regular chain is the next up, but if stored in a pile can be a real PITA to untangle. Definite improvement over cables. I didn't see the cost/...

    Baofeng? GMRS that's inexpensive?

A GRMS license is usable by the members of the licensees household. https://www.fcc.gov/general-mobile-radio-service-gmrs#:~:text=If%20you%20receive%20a%20license,units%20within%20the%20licensed%20system. I guess it comes down to how you define "Imediate Family" ;)

    Baofeng? GMRS that's inexpensive?

I know, Zombie thread ;) The FCC changed the FRS/GMRS rules slightly (last year?) to seemingly make legal the dual power FRS/GMRS radios. The assignied the FRS channels as .5w channels, and the shared use channels 2w channels. From the FCC Personal Radio Services page: Family Radio Service...

    Tie Rod End Boots

Doorman makes generic dust boots, and I'm sure there are a few others out there :)
