Indeed, I could write a dissertation on the difficulties in expecting a early AW4 to work with a later model XJ. Once I THOUGHT I had reached success and drove my XJ for months, it began to set code P0700 -- this despite the fact that the jeep runs and shifts perfectly, including the TC...
Following this thread closely as I have had TC lockup issues as well. Curious as to whether your troubles ever set a code..
BTW, at one point I got tired of suspecting the TC solenoid as well as the TC itself, so I tapped into the lead that goes to the lock-up solenoid to apply 12VDC to the...
SOLVED! Well, sorta:
Pretty sure its the ignition switch. I have learned that when I get ready to drive MY XJ, and if the airbag light fails to extinguish within the normal 15-20 seconds, I need only shut the XJ off, rip the ign switch on and off three or four times, and everything --...

Thanks for the thoughtful responses. If I wrung off one of those fittings on the side of the AW-4, I would throw myself off of a bridge. Fortunately, or un, I've had mine out several times, and I keep a tube of anti-seize in my shirt pocket.
BTW, throwing ones self of a bridge in north...
GREAT story!
A pal who knows that I have been wrestling with a "check engine" lights sent me this. Hoping for some slack from admins, since it's not strictly XJ related . . .
