I made a setup bearing when I built my 8.25 for the outer pinion but I used it before installing the crush sleeve while I was checking pattern. Made things easier to disassemble. I just tightened the pinion until there was a decent amount of drag before checking pattern.
Just a random thought, my XJ has behaved similarly to this when it had the battery disconnected for a long period of time. I had to give it throttle to get it to start as well as stay in the throttle to maintain idle. The jeep would not idle at all, if I let off the gas it would die. I had to...
Maybe, I would like to get rid of it all together since it is still on my jeep and I don't have a lot of storage for it. Just an fyi, one of the mounts did have a crack that has been since welded up and repainted.
If no one takes the whole unit after a few days I'll get back in touch about...
Just FYI, those are old pictures from when it was fairly new. It does have some rust on it now. I can post new pictures if anyone would like to see it.
I have a home-built roof rack I am moving away from to carry my spare tire on a swing out tire carrier. It has had several years of use and has been tweaked some from leaning into a tree. It is still serviceable and has mounts for an axe, shovel, hi-lift and spare tire up to a 35. Mounted with...
I am selling for a friend an RE1600 adjustable trackbar. It has never been installed as he went a different direction before completing the build.
Asking $75 located in Huntsville, AL area. I have it in hand and can ship if needed.
Well David, I was ust trying to think of a place to go when I get my front gears done to get some break in time on them before I start beating on them. I'll do the first few short drives on them by my house but I would like to do some riding around in 4wd to put a little load on the gears. I'm...
I'll be wanting to do an easy ride to get the front gears broken in after I get them in. Any suggestions on easier trails in the area? I've been to Hale Mtn several times and I don't think its a good place to try to break in a gearset.
It got the Aussie put back in with the cross pin after that ;-) now I just need to get some time carved out to get the front done. Backlash on it is set at 0.007"
No offense to you on this blondejoncherokee, but theres a few things to point out for the 8.25 that is different from what you posted.
The 8.25 does not use shims on the carrier and also doesn't use shims to set pinion bearing preload. The backlash is set using side adjusters so it can be set...
Thanks to everyone for the replies and assistance. I have a coworker that has offered up his shop and time to do them with me in exchange that I help regear his liberty in a couple of months.
Thanks Tyler I do already have my gears and install kits. I'm guessing with you doing another member from 2 hours out it is feasible to drive up and get them done that day?
I know there are a few folks in the Hunstville area and I am finally looking to get my axles regeared. I had planned on doing them myself, but where I am living now does not give me much shop space and I think my best bet would be to pay to have them done. Does anyone have anyone they recommend...
