With the cold temps hitting and working in the elements I figured a hand warmer would be pretty awesome. I read good reviews and the price was right so I picked up a Real Tree camo hand warmer and am having issues.....
When I first got it, I followed the easy instructions, using Zippo brand fluid and everything. It worked fine the first time, stayed warm way longer than I expected. I took it to work that night, did the same ignition process and when I got to work it was stone cold. When I got home I ignited it and let it burn the fuel off and it stayed warm for for a good 12 hours. I tried it the next night, this time keeping a closer eye on it, right after igniting it the warmer did what it should and was warm however, when I got to work it was cold again. I leave it sitting in the cup holder of the XJ with the heater on and in the little warming bag and it just got cold along the way. That same night I borrowed a lighter and got it ignited again at work, lasted a few minutes and went cold again.
Last night, I did all the same while at work, fresh fluid, ignited and saw the burner glowing red and it lasted a few minutes and went out again. I had a cheap bic lighter and that wouldn't stay lit in the cold so I was thinking, is it too cold for this warmer to stay ignited? It has only been in the low 40s high 30s so not cold by any stretch and isn't that when you would need this thing lol. The warmer certainly works just fine in my house and gets Hot and stays warm well past the advertised time suggestion. As soon as it's out in the field I get nothing from it though.
Tonight, I am going to fill and ignite it as early as I can before leaving for work thinking maybe it needs time to get warm before being exposed to the cold. I am also going to pack a Zippo lighter so I can try to re-ignite it at work if needed.
Just bugging me I can't get this thing to work where I need but in my house it's working flawless. Anyone have experience with them?
