:D About to start up the xj for the first time in over a year. :D

I got the xfer case in and bolted up front d/s in now off to napa in the morning to get a ujoint for the rear and a battery...

wohooo....

billy, I bet you have learned a lot about the internals of a 231 over the past few months. One of the benefits of doing things multiple times (like my AW-4).

Sean, One of the reasons it has taken me so long to get your TC in was I had to make the shifter hole the right size again.... The atlas shifter needs a larger whole than the stock shifter. I had to weld in some sheet metal. Then I fiberglassed over that.

I need to get back up to Sacto.. so I can check out that Supply store. I tried to haul but back home to hit the jeep dealer when I left your house. Maybe in a couple of weeks I could head up there on the weekend? (did not make it on time oh well the wifes jeep is running again now)

What is the hold up on your Atlas? Has the guy sent it? BTW are those 297 joints on that rear shaft?

When your atlas gets there I would be willing to help you with the install. It is one heavy SOB.(Around 100+ pounds If I remember right)

[quote:c3b518d580]Got mine (231) in tonight too. Finally after screwing with it for way too long. Letting the RTV sit overnight and crossin my fingers for the morning [/quote:c3b518d580]

Did you rebuild the case?

Wow I cant believe it.... After sitting all this time I was still able to recharge the battery.... I left it on the charger over night and this morning it held the charge.

Larry, the rear ujoint is a 1310. I am not sure about the CV joints, it's a standard Tom Woods DS, so give him a ring, he can tell ya. I might take you up on the Atlas install help. Also, the place you want to visit is Blue Collar Supply on Florin-Perkins road. They are open till 4 on Saturdays and til 5 during the week.

Thanks Sean, I got the u joint in.. (took the shaft to napa)
My Father in law had given me a press a while back. I used it for the first time putting in the ujoint. WOW what a difference that made. I think the last time I replaced ujoints I did it with a hammer and a socket. The press made it about a 2 minute job.

Also, I could not believe it. After all the sitting... (over a year) after charging the battery I just taped the key and viola. It fired right up. It is running just a little rough. I imagine the gas is not to good after sitting for so long.

Now it should not be long before it is on the road. I am hoping to get most of it done before going back to work on Monday.

Yeah, actually, I played Dr. Frankenstien w/ 3 different transfer cases and it looks like I actually made one working one. So far, so good [img:bb8a58d7cf]http://www.extrememopar.com/ot/fingersx.gif[/img:bb8a58d7cf]

The XJ has left the building.....

After over a year of collecting dust in the garage I drove the jeep out of the garage today. :D

I still need to put the whole interior together and finish the rear wheel wells(one is almost done...the other is about 3/4) and a lot of other misc stuff.

Sean, I think you might need your speedo gear back. The atlas takes the speedo gear from the stock case. When I sold my atlas I kept mine.. I pulled the one out of the 231 and put mine in.(yours had a 3 prong plug mine was a 2 prong plug) If you need it back just let me know.

I forgot how much I loved hearing that stroker rumble. It sounds wicked through the borla exhaust. After not hearing it for over a year it is like having a new toy again.

See you all on the trails soon.

Hooray! The Ghost of Larry Ratcliffe will now be able to join us on some trails this year!

Keep that speedo gear handy, I'll let you know if I need it when I get my Atlas in.
