I know it's not what you said, but I got one from a 2000 that went from a NP231 to a 8.25. What's the difference in the two?

The 8.25 DS is an inch shorter.

I have one that was too short from my 96 after I lifted it measures about 27.75 eye to eye not including the slipyoke. Its yours if you want it. Will need new joints tho.

they changed yokes at some point...the earlier ones make a mess when you pull the shaft out of the tcase...the later ones don't.

thats why i need a new one. or one to hold me over while i get the other one rebuilt.

If you can bring one new joint for the rear end, I can help you install it. The joint at the yoke isn't wasted yet but its not as tight as a new one is all. Will definetly get you by. Let me know its yours either way if you want, I'm in Pasadena near PCC college.
