WHY ISN"T MY CD PLAYER WORKING

I recently had my ignition catch on fire and the headlight switch at the same time,freak short or something.The night this happened the Panasonic CD player I have and love still worked.The next morning it plays the CD but there is no sound coming out of the speakers.I rewired the ignition to a push button and the headlight,taillight and gauge light to a switch and found no other burn wires.WHY ISN'T MY CD PLAYER WORKING??????

I think the best or at least quickest option is to pull the player out, and first check at its wiring harness that it's getting power where it should. Remember that it probably has two power leads, one for the memory, clock, and possibly also for the eject, and another for the main power. The memory line is always on, and the other should be on with the ignition. Make sure those lines are connected and the fuses good, and that the player's chassis ground is good.

Is this a player you installed yourself? If not, consider the possibility that in addition to the head unit there's an amplifier hidden back there somewhere. You may need to trace wires to see where everything goes. It might be either not connected right any more, or dead.
