who's got the best motor mounts?

They were pretty easy to make, cut the top off of some box to make a cradle and welded in the bushing cage. Took about an hour and $20 in parts, could be done cheaper though. The most expensive part was the rubber bushings, I got them from a spring shop, they weren't sure of the application.

I am sure the more ones work fine though if you aren't manly enough to make your own :D

Yeah replacing stock ones every year is pretty cool, NOT, especially once you start busting up your alternator against the frame or ruin you ac lines from the engine flopping around.:D

Golden Crack

Hi Armstrong, how are you doing ?

Thanks for the questions on motormounts. When we were at Golden Crack and got all twisty Dan Starc said he heard my fan hit the radiator so I guess I need to do the motormounts as well, 85K.

Sounds like either MORE or stock............one time somewhat expensive install or one or more inexpensive installs.

How are the boys? Motormounts are something that maybe even at their early age they can lend a hand. Trust me, you can't get them started early enough.

OTOH, you can buy several sets OEM style mounts for one pair of MOREs.

ChiXJeff

While it's true you can buy several sets of stock motor mounts for the price of one set of M.O.R.E.s mounts, you can't buy a new set of stock mounts and a new radiator for the same price :( .

Mr. fan, meet Mr. radiator, please play nice

BTDT, then bought better mounts

Go M.O.R.E. rubber mounts or go home

Bones :skull1:

I got some stock ones from auto zone with a "one year warranty". Well, i've got the MORE ones on the way right now since i dont like putting new stock ones in every month and nor did auto zone.

the way i see it...

The engine has a given torque input to the rest of the drivetrain....regardless of what is downward in the gear train. this given input is multiplied by a constant that produces the output torque at the wheels. this constant can change when you shift gears..or chage differential gears, or add a 4:1 case upgrade...so the output torque can increase..

the torque provided by the engine is still the same...so the mounts still see the same loads in both cases... this description makes sense if you always opperate your engine at maximum output.

but, the torque required to accelerate the jeep is still the same...so you can have an increase in acceleration with the regear and subsequint increase in torgue...

if you choose not to utilize the increase in acceleration( drive the same speed, "style") then the engine doesnt have to work as hard( it inputs less torgue to the drivetrain). so the mounts would then see lighter loads.

I re-geared and i like the added acceleration..so i got the poly MORE mounts. they transmit a decent amount of vibration, but they feel great with the 5-speed. im my opinioin..they're worth it.

THanks

Hey there Motorman -

Whatsay, Keith?
I've been good - just too busy to have sufficient amounts of fun wheeling. How 'bout yourself?
You'd better keep a close eye on that radiator/fan clearance. That can get expensive quickly.
I'm anxious to get my new MORE mounts installed - they should be here early this week. I've been searching for that thunking sound I developed the day before leaving for Moab EVER SINCE. I've checked or replaced just about everything, and then finally noticed the practically nonexistent condition of my motor mount on the passenger side. The only way I spotted it was because I was sitting on the engine loosening the upper shock mount to install a set of BPEs because the sound reminded me of the thunk I got when the rear shocks got their BPEs. That's got to be what was making that sound - at least I sure hope so because I'm tired of looking for it!
My boys are not quite 3 yet - their birthday is January 20. So they've got a little way to go before they're ready to do much heavy helping - but they're already interested! I'm ready too!
Order up some MORE mounts right away - then make plans to join us at Winterfest!

I had a thunking sound in certain situations like pulling out on hills. It hasn't happened since I installed the MORE motor and trans mounts.
