Who has a stroker or a V8 conversion?

So who has a stroker or V8 conversion? Do you like it? Is it worth the money? And finaly if you did buy a kit for the stroker what brand was it? Thanks.

have a stroker, and I love it! Almost all the power of a V8, but bolts right in without the troubles of a conversion.

Ditto. I have a 4.6 stroker that I built myself except for the final installation. I cherry-picked my own parts for the project so it ultimately cost me under $1500 and I still have my old 4.0 as a spare. Here's my write-up:

http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/stroker.html

With an estimated 270hp and 327lbft, it outpowers and outtorques several V8's and combined with my XJ's lightweight (for an SUV) chassis, it just plain kicks ass. Combined fuel economy of 20.4mpg (only 0.4mpg less than my old 4.0) is also pretty impressive given my leadfoot tendencies.
Do I like it? Hell yeah!

Depends. If you have a rig that is heavy, runs a 1 ton driveline, or has tires larger than 35", you'll be happier with a bit more displacement.

I have all of the above, and would be happier with another liter of displacement over my 4.6.

i too have a stroker and it was worth every penny.
I see alot of guys asking about fuel economy and strokers......Those two words shouldnt be in the same sentance.NOT because they arent economic, but when you feel all the power it makes, its hard to stay off of it.

What size tires are you guys running because i can almost guarantee you arent putting out 270hp with some big ol meats.
I have a 4.7L stroker with all kinds of stuff done to it and pushing 31's and i got it dynoed at only 150whp, and 210torque.
Another thing when buying a stroker from some company all of the hp and torque numbers they say on their websites are all just estimated bhp.
You get 20.4 mpg on the hiway right, because a stocker only gets like 18 hiway mpg. Thats a little fishy. My stroker only gets like 16hiway mpg if im good to it, and like 12 in city, if im lucky.

I have a 5.9L AMC going in. I like it b/c I have only changed it some. I plan on adding a lot more performance parts and I cannot wait to get it rolling. One thing, plan for bad mpg. Stroker is the best way to go if you are real worried about gas mileage.

Baloney- I have a few bolt-on performance mods with 235/75-R15 tires and I get 22mpg on the highway and consistantly 17.4mpg in town. I really don't think the 4.0/stroker is very responsive to fuel economy changes, for better or worse. You have to get a lot of weight to make a difference, but that's not the engines fault.

The power they claim is at the fly wheel and is uneffected by the size tires and what driveline you have for your particular application. Those estimates are based off of dyno'd motors built the same way, and thus usaully pretty accurate. I'm not talking about manufactures claims on HP gains from an intake or something mind you, but take Hesco for example. I think they actaully dyno all of there motors before they send them out. The 255-275 HP range is pretty accurate for a 4.6L-4.7L stroker. You get those kinda MPG numbers because of those tires you got. Do you have a stick or auto? What kinda gears? Lift? Flog it a lot because it's fun to do with a stroker? All make much more of a difference than .7L of dissplacement. I get around 12 MPG with my stock 4.0 and 32's with 3.07's, but I beat the piss out of it and have to keep it floored on the highway just to do the speed limit if I'm in 5th.

You cant tell others what they get with their Jeeps. I got 21mpg on my last tank coming home from wheeling. Nothing but open highway, but then again I do have 35's, 5" lift, roof rack, lights on top, Fullsize spare on top, winch, bumpers, 200 lbs of tools, etc. I have absolutely no motor mods, not even a filter.

PS...your motor sucks, because I have seen stockers dyno at 150 RWHP

I got 24 out of mine once, but I'll never again drive that slow to get someplace, I was following my boss in his old ford diesel pulling a trailer

I don't have big ol meats. My tires are 225/70R15H high performance street tires so they're only 27.4" in diameter. Axle gears are stock 3.07's and I have the AX15 5-speed. My estimated 270hp is at the flywheel or ~220rwhp. Given that I've run a 1/4 mile in 14.3 @95.4 with my rig weighing 3480lb (with me in it), I think that's a fair estimate.
The mpg issue might be causing some confusion because I'm used to miles per imperial gallon. Translated into miles per US gallon, my 20.4 average in mixed city/highway driving would be ~17mpg. For those who like metric units, it's ~14L/100km. In pure highway driving (that's cruising at an average 80-85mph), I get nearer 18mpg. Touring on country roads doing 65-70mph, I get ~20mpg.
The bottom line is that I'm only getting 2% less mpg from the stroker in mixed driving than when I had my totally stock 4.0, and pure highway mpg is marginally better with the stroker.
CRASH, I have an answer to your need for more displacement; LS1. That's 1.1L more displacement than your stroker and 100lb less weight. Think about it.

Just get you a 383 stroker and be done with it .. as far as mpg i moved to Ky from Ga almost 500 miles on 3/4 tank of gas loaded down and doing 80-90 mph in a 88 with 255000 miles on it .. well engine has been built . Could always get you a 5.0 V6 and stick it in if any are left.

The 305 V6 was a Chevy. My understanding is that it's a stump puller. Terrible mileage though. My father had a friend with one. He parked it in '74 when gas went to nearly A DOLLAR!!! It was an UGLY truck anyway.

I can't see getting any worse when I build myself a stroker (hopefully soon) than what I'm getting now - around 10-13MPG depending on ambient temp. If I'm lucky, this f'ing cold weather will break sometime soon, and I can start getting some decent mileage.

I *pray* that my stroker will not get any worse, though this seems perhaps like a pipe dream.....oh well, whatever.
