Humboldt was hit today, 6.5 on the rating. Im in the san mateo right now. :dunno:

I've never felt one.

My brother in law said that it felt like the ground dropped, and went up and down for a bout 5 seconds, then it continued side to side for about 30 seconds.

Anyone feel it?

Arcata is still without power.

Apparently many people thought there was going to be a tsunami so they tried to rush away!

I was in Old Sac and at the same time (found out an hour later) I watched a metal gate shake back and forth with no wind or reason to do so. I guess the gate was moving from the quake. Weird.

I lived in the Bay Area during the Loma Prieta quake and lived in SoCal during the Northridge quake. Two of the biggest quakes we've had in recent years so I definitely felt them. While living in those areas I only noticed the smaller ones on occasion if I happened to be standing still and I saw a chandelier swinging or something. Now that I live in the Central Valley, I don't feel any of them...

your state wants to float away to china. i think you have little slanty eyed dudes under ground with jackhammers tryin to commandeer your land mass. resistance is futile, all you base are belong to them:D

6.5 is definitely a bit scary, but not really a "big quake" by CA standards.

I don't know if you are new to California, but there are hundreds of earthquakes every week. Not necessarily 5+ quakes, but there is usually a pretty good chance of many earthquakes large enough to be felt somewhere is CA every day.

No, Im not.

It's just interesting that we have 3 notable ones in the bay, (where Im from) then a large one in humboldt. (where I live.)

I've never felt one though.

Yea all these quakes are trippy. I was watchin the news though and they said that there usually isn't a big one right after a bunch of little ones. They did say that this could go on for weeks though

Funny how they are rock'in the other side of the world too, with a 6.8-magnitude and a total of 6 Earthquakes in the Solomon Islands.

The Day of Judgement is near!

My in-laws live in Eureka in a 3 story plus full basement 100+ year old house so needless to say, they had lots of cracks in the plaster and doors that won't open all too easily. Everything that was on any kind of shelve or anything, was on the floor when they got home and their couches had slid on the hardwood floors almost clear across the room. They lost several flat screen t.v.'s, which were just on their flimsy bases instead of being mounted on the wall like I had told them to do. Deductable for their earthquake insurance is like $40,000 dollars so they'll just have to suck it up and buy new stuff here and there. Sucks. On a weird side note, one of their aquariums had broke and they couldn't find one of their fancy goldfish until today at 4:30 pm, 24 hours after the quake. They found it and it was stiff but still breathing. They have had him back in an aquarium now for 6 hours and he is swimming around and acting normal. 24 hours without water?! Crazy!

It was a fawking huge quake as far as I'm concerned. It was a very violent quake, and I've been through several. I was in my house at the time it hit.

I lost about $1500 in dishes / china / stemware etc. There was no structural damage to my house, but there was a lot of damage else where.

The quake was big and devasting enough to make national news....

Funny how the Loma Prieta was a 7.0 and the Northridge was 6.7. So I would say that it was pretty significant. If it hit in the right place, it would have done some significant damage. I was standing outside when the Loma Prieta hit and I just remember seeing the street move up and down like a wave. It was scary as hell!!

You're either without feeling, or just a total bad ass if you think the 6.5 wasn't big.

I've heard some violent stories!

I was hoping to hear from you Ivan! That really sucks. I just happened to be out of the area when it hit. I've got lots of friends in the dorms, I'm sure they'll find broken... uh... glassware.:sunshine:

Are tgoff or rexj around? Wonder where they were.
