Just that a Catalytic converter smell never reminded me of sulfer. Kind of an odor all it´s own, metallic.
Had a Ferret take up residence in the wifes XJ, I smelled something, thought it was the dogs watering the rims (which they were). Ferret watered the inside of the engine compartment in retaliation. War of the urine. Sure enough smelled like sulfer, worse when the motor got hot.
Things really got interesting, when the weather turned cold and we turned on the heater for the first time.
Darned things chew the wiring, really, had to change a bunch. Story went around and it became apparent, it was a pretty common problem, nobody much talked about. Found out they offer various, weasel deterants, from high freguency sound, to sprays, for your car motor.
Funny, never have chewed the wireing on my Chev, but have chewed on the wireing of both XJ´s. Guess Jeeps taste better.
Have had many catalytic converters get stinky on occasion, most times at the change of season, when the gas companies add, gas dryer to there mixes. Sometimes after a long time at idle, stuck in traffic jam. Sometimes at startup, when the computer adds some fuel. Sometimes after a bonzai run up the interstate (no speed limits in Germany), really hot cat will stink some also, engine usually runs a touch lean, at triple digit speeds.
When I smell, the smell, I usually check the floor boards above the CAT. just to make sure, it isn´t getting hot enough, to melt something.
