Hello everyone I have a 2000 xj sport and I need to fix the rear diff seapage. I have an 8.25 rear and I was gonna get a new solid diff cover and fluid except I'm not 100% of which type of fluid I need I'm hoping someone can educate me please. Thank you

75w90 with limited slip additive, just in case yours is limited slip.

OK so there two different answers here which one is correct maybe someones got a little justification on why I should use either 75w90 with limited slip additive, just in case yours is limited slip. OR 75-140, & a lube locker? Thank you!!!

I run 80-90 in everything but the f350 and it gets the expensive 75-140 synthetic that Ford calls for the extreme towing.

Jeep says 80-90 for regular use, and 75-140 for extreme/ towing

I am not easy on my junk, so I followed jeeps advice on the 75-140

For the Lube locker, it is worth it!

So I'm leaning toward the 75w-140 then someone suggested a Lube Locker or my other option is performing an RTV which sounds like is what I'll have to do because I have a drain plug what is an RTV exactly?

Unless you have some type of aftermarket diff cover. The plug that you are looking at is more than likely going to be a fill plug and not a drain plug.

You will need to take the bolts off of the cover and take the cover off to drain your fluid.

Then after you have drained the fluid. You'll need to scrape off both the cover and the housing and get rid of all the old RTV.

Then you will need to apply new RTV. I usually put it on the cover and then I put the cover on the housing and put the bolts in and tighten everything down.

Then add the new fluid into the fill plug.

If you actually have a aftermarket cover that has a drain plug then you will not need RTV just drain and refill.

Friction modifier is needed if you have a limited slip.

I ordered a new Solid Diff cover so does that matter or same process just new aftermarket diff cover?

Thank you
