What do you have to do before the Crawl?

1. Acquire 231....Done
2. Acquire SYE for 231....Done
3. Install said 231
4. Acquire a new D30 and rebuild/re-gear. Possibly order new locker if current one is screwed....In Progress
5. Try to get a handle on some of the oil leaks (yeah, right)
6. Address new found cooling issues.

I need to pull my front axle out to weld it and fix it...

I need to try to hope for next year. I'm out.

Same here. Not going to come together like I want it to. Another guy on my shift (with more seniority) put in for the same week of vacation. I doubt I'll get it approved.

Even if it does get approved, I imagine all cabins will be reserved.

No Cage, No rear axle and no time to get them in since the XJ is still in DD status........slap in the control arms and relocation brackets.........much easier.

Nah, aligne pinion and weld in place. Where's that easy button?

Rosco said that we shouldn't be using a tig upside down...

You can use a tig upside down if you are good. OR just use a mig, my 14b tubes are miged to the housing and holding up just fine.

only thing I would like to get done is take the camper off the truck since we are doing the cabin thing this time.

Sam's 8.25 is mig'ed..... ive seen a number of mig'ed housings hold up great. The 6-7 inches of mig bead is way better than plug welds and press fit

I thought that a mig didn't stick to cast?

mac 'what am i missing?' gyvr

It will. It has to be done a certain way. Andy @ IronMan Migged my front. It has held fine. Frome what I remember he runs a bead and heats the cast and mild and then runs more beads to blend them. I might be wrong but I think that is what he did.

heat....and then use said heat to allow it to cool slowly.

without the torch you can hear the welds cracking like popcorn.

it works... ask the guy with the 440hp xj whose upper mount was mig'ed directly to cast by tyler with proper pre and post heat
