Gawdammit....... I had my day all planned out to get some Jeeps moved around, get some parts pulled....... and my trailer winch takes a huge crap.

Champion 7500 lb bought at Sam's Club for $209..... I guess I got my money out of it - it's dragged 20+ cars onto the trailer. The '82 Wagoneer did it in.

The magnets shattered, crumbled and bound up on the stator.

Went looking for a cheap replacement...... Harbor Freight was sold out all over Denver, ORI Littleton and Broomfield apparently don't like selling parts - they NEVER answer their fawking phones......

So...... Where are those Smittybuilt winches being sold cheap again? :D

Speaking of people who don't like to answer their phones and sell parts, you got an ax-15 for a TJ?

Goodluck getting a new winch.

Troy doesn't like girl Jeeps like TJs.

Ya got that right.

Sorry Dutch, I did get your message. Nope, no AX15's.

Thanks, but $450 is too rich for my blood. Personally, I can't see any reason winches are so pricey. There ain't that much expensive chit in the parts that make a winch..... For that kinda money, it should include synthetic rope and a billet hawse fairlead.

When it comes time for me to finally get a winch for my Jeep I'll be taking a trip to harbor freight. That or maybe I'll get me a nice small little ATV winch and then bring along several pulleys to allow for force multiplication. When I was in H8 School (US Army Vehicle Recovery School, APG, MD) we pulled a HMMWV that was submerged in a mud pit up to its fenders out by hand with normal rope. Needles to say we had a lot of pulleys linked up for that.

Um...... if you get stuck on a trail with several other rigs along, or worse, a group stuck behind yours waiting for you to take the hour to set up all those pulleys, you're not gonna be real popular........ :twak:

:D

Aw, don't get so sensitive Bill...... You traded in your badass XJ for the girlie TJ.....

I still love YOU and that's all that matters right? :smootch:

Awrite, well I went and snagged another Champion winch from Sam's Club, this time in the 10K lb variety. I didn't wanna pay quite that much, but since I use the damn thing often enough, I guess it'll be money well spent. Plus, Sam's has a nice 4 year full replacement/refund policy for $40 which hopefully I won't need, will be nice to have. And, this kit comes with the disconnect battery lead so I can use the truck battery instead of lugging one around in the trailer. Out the door for just under $400.

I'm also gonna see if Champion will sell me a replacement motor for the old winch, paint that one black and put it on the DD '96.

Anyone wanna buy the receiver mount?

Sensitive? Nah, I'm used to it.:laugh3:
Fergie used to wear a t-shirt around that said "Wranglers are for Cheerleaders."
Since the long arms went on, it's just about as comfortable and stable on the road as the XJ was. The storage space still sucks though...:sure:

UNLIMITED! Lots of space in that puppy.

good buy! I got mine from checkers for $299, but it came with winch only. It is Slow, but it works. Mine has 5 full sizers under its belt including a f350 with a broken front axle, in the snow for about 100 feet.
