Hi All!
been a while since i've been on here, now that i don't own an XJ anymore .
but to the point, i have a 2000 expedition that has some rust on the body, not on a replaceable panel.it is the body along the B pillar seen when opening the door, just above the bolted on "step" to get into the vehichle. it is probably a 4"x6" total to get to good metal.
I don't know anyone who owns a welder around me, nor am i any kind of good at welding (only a very little bit of experience at all). Honestly, even though i an a complete novice, i have a feeling i could probably get it done. it doesn't need to be pretty. just functional to stop the rust from spreading.
however, i recall that at least for XJ's, that it can be very difficult to properly weld on the body, very thin metal. I don't want to assume, but i assume 1/4 inch steel would be the appropriate material.
Is this a bad assumption? I honestly don't know enough about ford expedition's, and haven't navigated the one ford forum i belong to enough to get a good sense yet. i know you guys and would appreciate some tips, even if it's a decent body shop in the Raleigh, NC area where i can get the work done that won't cost me an arm and a leg.
cheers,
Jason
