Vice President shoots hunter.

"Whittington "came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn't signal them or indicate to them or announce himself," Armstrong said."

Pure BS. If you're keeping an eye on your surroundings, you know what's there. Even more pathetic is that it was with a shotgun and he didn't see someone close enough to keep from hitting him.

What a dumbass.

"Armstrong said she was watching from a car while Cheney, Whittington and another hunter got out of the vehicle to shoot at a covey of quail."

Hmm, so was this on a road or were they jsut driving around this guy's ranch? Atleast they got out....

Yeah, no one ever gets accidentally shot......

Exactly. It's not an accidental discharge, it's a NEGLIGENT discharge. Awareness of your surroundings will prevent this from happening. We teach new hunters to NOT do exactly what Dick did: Follow the bird around and put the blinders on to everything around you. ;)

Miles upon miles of area to hunt. One Texas ranch where I was quail hunting was so big we put 75mi on the truck in about 1/8th of the property...and didn't hit the same place twice. Imagine it being your own county that you can hunt on, with several different areas that are 'hot'. We got out at about a dozen different spots and walked a good 3mi or so at each one. :)

I agree...sounds like old Dick wasn't paying attention. I remember in the mid 80's when Greg Lemond got shot and damn near didn't pull through. It was a very similar situation.

Wow, to read this thread......it's almost as if several of you were actually there?

Feel free to believe everything you read, and especially everything that the media reports.......can't wait for the press to stir up some crap about Dick not getting a Christmas card from Whittington one year has been plotting his revenge........

It's sad that the guy got shot, I'm reserving my judgement until I hear the facts.

I was in the brush looking for the Great Gillygalloon Bird. I didn't wanna speak up b/c I believe I was trespassing.

I think you missed the rolling eyes in my post.
My point is, not to crucify him for being a normal idiot.
Unfortunately, shit happens, sometimes.

What would be a 'logical' explanation for an act of sheer stupidity? The aging attorney was stalking the VP and ol' Dick was quick on the draw and stopped him?

I stand by 'bullshit'. There's no such thing as a hunting 'accident'.

Personally I find no excuses for someone getting shot besides they were purposely shot. Probably not the case here but he should be shot for being a dumb a$$.

A guy here lost his hunting hunting license for life because he was a retard and lost everything he owned in the lawsuits his family filed after the fact. I believe they labeled gross negligence. Kids make mistakes like that but an adult has no excuses and I don't see how it should be treated any different than involuntary manslaughter.

Does that leave him with just a plain ol' hunting license?

The guy's lucky he wasn't hunting with a Kennedy. Their M.O. is to leave the body, go home and sober up,return the next day with several of their posse and numerous excuses like "It wasn't my fault, he jumped in front of my shot!". The other up side to being shot by Cheney is he always has a medical team in tow. TC

Conspiracy you say...?

Hmmm...

So the VP shoots an attorney and we don't give him a medal...?

Oh wait... That's right... He left him alive.

:gag:
