Van Windows/Portholes???

I just purchased a used cap for one of the MJs in "the Fleet." It's a commercial model that has no windows, anywhere, and that obviously doesn't enhance visibility.

J.C. Whitney no longer lists windows and portholes for van conversions in their catalog. Does anyone know of a source for such goodies?

www.westmarine.com (?) for weathertight hatches and portals...

(LOL picturing 70's smoke-plexi bubble van windows shaped like the "Keep on Truckin" dude hanging off the MJ camper shell... Be a magnet for those freindly & helpful CT State Troopers...)

Eagle,

I take it you have a MJ without the back window. Could you post a picture, I have never seen one like that before. It sounds like a rare piece of MJ history.

If this is a uncommon version of the MJ do you really want to install windows? I use to drive single axle and double axle dump trucks (5 & 10 yards respectively) in the summer and of couse there is not inside review mirror but after a while you got use to using the external mirrors.

Also if you want install a rear glass would it be very much work to cut out the back so you could use a factory window you pick up in the junk yard or install one of those windows which slide for access to the bed.

Looking forward to seeing pictures.

Actually Martin he's refering to a windowless camper shell (I'm quite sure at least).

Yeah, the MJ has a rear window but the cap is windowless. However, the upside is that the MJ rear window is fixed, and so far my research has turned up a source for sliding rear windows for MJs.

What about gluing a glass salad bowl or glass turkey platter to an opening?

Ummmmm ... right.

I'll take it under advisement. Don't be concerned if I don't get back to you on this real soon, though. :)

I've heard about guys who drive around in rigs with no rear windows... and what I've heard is not pretty.

Found a few sites with a google search. Are you really looking for the bubble type windows? You might need a time machine to find those. But a pair of heart shaped bubble windows and a mattress and you've got yourself a second-base-mobile... Wicked!!!

Take a look at these though:

Eagle check out Redneck Trailer Supplies. I know that they have windows of various sizes starting at about $35.00 and going up from there. These are good quality aluminum framed windows too.

Good Luck!

For my purpose and financial condition, just the plain plastic window with the gasket would do the job and is what I was looking for. Thanks for the link.

Almost any speed shop or rv store should carry them. I see them at flea markets and yard sales from time to time. Saw a bowtie chevvy one a couple of weeks ago, thing was 3ft wide and 12' or more high.
