Hey guys after looking at the valving on the 7100s I think I'd like to get my new to me shocks custom valves vs a preset valving..
I'm not a prerunner but I do tend to get a little fast on dirt rods & wash boards & some whoops. More or less my jeeps a expo rig that crawls & does MILD go fast stuff. I run no sway bar front or rear!
My D30 is about 40lbs heavier than stock. 225lbs between the winch & bumper. Current coil spring rate is 180lbs which is the rusty 3" HD but I may try to get that higher with the RE 3.5" with 1 coil cut off or something. Staying with. 3" no higher.

Anyway I've got 10" 7100's that need a rebuild. I was looking at the 275/78 valving but then thought of maybe custom valving them..
Preset 275/78 valving shim specs are as follows:

Compression
17x.50
22x.50
28x.40
32x.40
37.4x.30
18x.10
Rebound
18x.20
37.4x.25
32x.25
28x.35
20x.35
19x.50
19x.50

I was thinking of changing a few shims to come up with something custom but I'm not too sure if its hurting or helping. Here's what I've come up with.

Compression
18.25
24x.25
28x.35
32x.30
37.4x.25
18x10
Rebound
18x.25
37.4x.20
32x.30
28x.25
20x.40
19x.50
18.5x.50

I'm trying to get a softer ride around town, which would mean the first 2-3 shims should be lighter. The next 2-3 effect medium suspension strokes which I tried t leave close to the same then the last 2-3 are for high strokes which I tried stiffen a bit...
I'm gonna get with Joel at bilstein but wanted t see if someone here could possibly help some? What's the difference as far as diameter vs thickness. How does a larger diameter but thinner shim (24x.25) compare to a smaller diameter & hickey shim(22x.50)?
Overall I'm like Webdogs rig..carry a lot of extras & gear. Up front I will have these 7100's the rear I use rancher adjustable a which actually work pretty decently and I'm getting cushion National leafs made currently and will have them in 3-5 weeks..

Should I just weigh my front end and post the results of that to better judge on valving? I was Cadillac smooth over pot holes or speed bumps but don't want mad body roll cause I have no sway bar either. And I want stiff but not too stiff for medium stuff like wash boards or dirt roads..and then stiffer yet for harder hits like maybe if I were no jump or get in some whoops. Any help guys? I've read tons of valving thread but not much out here about "custom" valving or even the pros and cons to thickness vs diameter ect ect.
