transfer case swap

I just bought an 89 MJ with the 4.0, AX15, 231 "Command trac" and i also have a spare parts jeep with the "Select Trac" t-case with the AW4 and was wondering if i could swap in the select trac behind the AX 15 without a huge headache?

what year did the np242 (selectrac) transfer case come from? if its before 1990 it should fit right up, they would both be 21 spline. if it is from a later jeep, it would probly be 23 spline and you would need to swap inputs.

and, are you sure you have an AX-15? our 89 came with the Peugot.
