trans cooler lines

I need a little help. My FSM shows the tranny cooler lines as being one way yet when I look at them they seem reversed.

According to the FSM the lower of the two lines is the return line.

The upper line is the out to cooler line.

I have an inline-6 with the aw-4.

My descriptions are a view from the passenger side while under the XJ.

The one further forward (and a little bit upper at least) is the out to cooler line, and it should go to the upper fitting on the radiator heat exchanger. The forward section of rubber hose falls considerably short of the radiator, and connects to a hard line in front of the engine. The return line has a longer front hose section, and is routed further back unless you have an auxiliary cooler. The way the two lines are routed makes it pretty difficult to figure out which end goes to which end, but unless they've been modified, you can't mix them up, owing to the different lengths and the way the fittings are staggered.

thank you.

this means that the FSM shows it correctly.
there has been some modification done, so maybe it was rerouted or hooked up incorrectly.

I will have to check into it more.
