Tranny Fluid Everywhere

So I'm driving my daughter to school, rockin' to Marshall Tucker's Can't You See, when suddenly NO I couldn't see!!! Smoke everywhere in front of me. I'm thinkin it's the minivan in front of me. My Jeep is well maintained and had been driving just fine to this point. Step on the gas, hmmm slippin', hop out to see fluid pouring on the ground, all from the front of the Jeep..arrrgh!!!! Had a webinar at work that I had to attend so I left it parked/bleeding on the side of the road and caught a ride with a coworker. Dreading going back to assess the damage after the webinar. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!:bawl:

Bummer Ed. Hope is was just a hose or something simple.

Thanks Josh, now that you mentioned hoses, I hadn't thought about that in the heat of the moment. From where I could see the gushing it's entirely possible it could be the lines to the tranny cooler! I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed. I'll post again later. On a side note, how's progress on the front axle?

Had a similar thing happen after doing some donuts in a gravel parking lot. I was driving home and noticed a trail of smoke behind me, pulled over and found a cooler line along the tranny had been hit by a rock I guess. I cut a secion of the hard line off and used a piece of high pressure hose and some clamps as a temporary fix to get me home. Atleast you were local and able to get a ride, also that its not your tranny leaking.

It is moving along but slow. I have it disassembled and cleaned up. I am going to strip it down this weekend and work on reinforcing it. Then its time to regear! Thanks again for bringing it up.

Josh.

Just went back to assess the damage, and you hit the nail on the head Josh! The hose on the high pressure line to the cooler came out of the crimp. Not a big expense but a pain in the arse since I can't plug it and fill the tranny and drive it home to repair. Thankfully I have AAA!! Crisis averted.

Good chit! Glad you got it home, AAA can be a lifesaver that's why I'm glad my mother in law has it, haha.

Funny you mention M-I-L, my wife's parents pay for ours yearly as one of our Christmas stocking stuffers!! I took the tube off last night and a tranny shop down the street from my work said he'd make me one for $40 bucks, so I should be back on the road by this evening. As you said in an earlier post, it was good that it happened local. Just think if it had happened when I did those 4 trails in 2 days!!!

Yeah this also gives you a reason to flush it all out, maybe put a new filter in also. So your just going to buy a new line and not hit the yard and get one for 10 bucks? If you got the money go for it, I think I would hit the yard myself but that's cause I'm a broke fawker.

What those "Fire Roads" JK lol!
Exactly why I'd be getting new hose too.
I saw the post 5 min after Josh posted about being a simple hose failure, and figured as much.
Glad to hear that's all it was, and not a mess out of the dipstick
or worse.:flame:

Yeah, I'd prefer not to spend $40 bucks, but a JY replacement could be just as worn out as the one I had. When it comes to these types of things, that could cause me to be stranded, I prefer to get a new part. Plus I'd hate to spew all that fluid on a trail.

You're welcome! I'm always happy to assist the folks here in the forum Josh, I know from hangin' with you you'd have done the same.
