wanting to get a trailer hitch for my 97 xj. a friend of mine has one i can have, off of a 1993 grand cherokee will it fit?
also i have no hardware just the hitch what is usally used (a self tapping lag bolt, or what?)
my xj does not have a gas tank skid plate so the only thing i can tell thats in the way is the tail pipe.

any help or adive will be greatly appericated!

I put onto my 98 I think a 92 hitch... and what you really want/need is called a nut strip :D If you have a gas tank skid you have it, if not, hit up the boneyard for the set :D

i cant comment on the compatibility of the hitch, but the best mounting method is the factory "nut strips" they are steel plates that sit inside the frame rail and match the existing holes with nuts welded to the strip.. im not sure how rust affects vehicles in the NC area but its worth the $$ to get them from your local DC parts counter..about $20/ea..... and grade 8 (or 8.8 since they are metric bolts) fasteners.. these will mount a hitch as well as a factory skid plate if you chose to add one later.... most after market suppliers will give you square plates with carriage bolts to mount it.....BAD JU JU!!!!!!!!!! let us know if the GC hitch works for you..
