Trail Damage

I'm cleaning out my car this evening and come across an odd bump in the floor in front of my passenger seat. I take a look underneath and between the pinch seam and frame rail I found this:

It's hard to see, but that dent isn't just a dent - it's a hole. You can see the underside of the carpet through it. I don't remember hitting anything that hard, but I sure must've. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I can pull the carpet and hammer it relatively flat, but I'm unsure how serious I need to get about patching the hole. Would I be fine with just putting some sort of sealant on it or should I have a steel plate welded over it? Thoughts?

Yeah, just hammer it down flat, use something flat and solid on the bottom side when you hammer it down so you don't end up making a bunch of dimples.
Go to Home Depot and get a roll of rain gutter tar tape. Put that tar tape over the hole.

When I've installed CB's in my trucks and ran the antenna cable thru the cab floor out to the bed, I've used that tape to cover the hole and to act as an insulator to keep the cable from cutting on the sharp metal. Works very nice.

Or, if you find yourself in the Littleton area sometime, I could buzz a weld to seal the puncture if it ends up being more of a split/crack than a hole.
