Looking to find where to buy genuine mopar tps for a 1996 4.0 xj with the upgraded obd2 stuff. Some places online say 4874371AC will work for 1996 obd2 some say it is 99-01, etc. Car is a 10/1996 production, really don't even know why the old bodystyle was being made that far into 96 but who knows, have always had trouble finding parts, some 97 work, some need to be 96, some are only 96, etc, anyways help is appreciated

Looking at pics on Rock Auto, it seems the one with the updated connector use flat pins. The without has round pins. What does yours have?

If you can't find a Mopar one, I'd consider NTK.

Brother in law is dealership mechanic NTK is OEM replacement, I.E. if Mopar doesn't still supply it NTK is equivalent if NTK doesn't provide it then Echlin, after that Chinese junk these vehicles are 23 years old at newest.

Are you certain that sensor is OBD2 specific?

I believe the late models use a different TPS than does my '96, but I think the earlier H.O. years are the same as mine. I have not gone deep down that rabbit hole--just going off what I see in the junkyard.

I believe so, the car has obd2 port for the scanner under the dash, and the pins inside the tps are flat

Also rockauto has 2 types of sensors, designated with "w/o upgraded obd2 connector" and "with upgraded obd2 connector" however they list both variants as compatible with a 1996 ( presumably because some 96s had older wiring??) But just want to be sure i get the right kind

Does this seem legit?

That Amazon pic is pretty useless. Need to see the plug on the opposite side. Either version will bolt onto the throttle body.

I have the OBD2 port as well, but I believe my wiring requires the earlier version.

I would pay closer attention to what your wiring looks like than to what the parts catalog thinks you need. The dealership couldn't even hand me the correct CPS, using the VIN. Just because it is in a database doesn't mean it is accurate. Reality trumps the database.

'96 was a transition year from ODB1 to OBD2 (as well as styling changes) so there are some components used in earlier years, some in later years, and some unique to '96. While I've never seen a specific date, I'm guessing it's based on the manufacture date of your specific XJ.

The PN on Amazon does match the correct Mopar one (with OBD) if you cross reference the RA ones.
