I search, but got mixed answers

I am installing a RE SF full pack tomorrow. I am having trouble with the stock brake line off to put on the extended Brake line. I will be getting that line done at a mechanic.

Question: Can I drive ON THE ROAD with the stock one still attached??

It would be for at most a week

Thanks, everyone

What kind of problem are you having taking the line off. It shouldn't be too hard. I ran into some difficulty with mine. But I just layed into it with some PB blaster let it soak, repeated a few times, left it overnight, then came back and pulled it off. Now at that point the line fitting was a little stripped but nothing a pair of vice grips couldn't tackle.

I'm pretty sure you can do the line yourself if you just have some patience. :)

get vice grips and clamp the hell out of that fitting(after soaking it down w/ wd40) and whack it with a bfh while gripping/steadying the line/fitting with a gloved hand. the sudden shock should break the fitting free.

Get a flare-nut wrench like one of these,

Yeah, I just went throug all that stuff (you left out heat).

Ill probably give it another try in a few days, but as for now there is a superflex kit waiting. So....call me impatient if anything.

You can all-ways just cut the hard line, and either reflare (preferred) or use a compression fitting with short stub to reconnect.

believe it or not that nut is some kind of friggin' half size(mabye from corrosion?). neither craftsman sae or metric fit mine right....

Get the flare wrench that fits closest and then put the vice grips on the outside of the wrench to clamp it down tight. I've done that several times.

Ok, update:

i unscrewed it from the axel and it has a lot of play after ive done the rear, even at full droop.

I will be redoing this brake line thing soon though, thanks for all your responses.

by the way taking a sawzall to my jeep for the first time (2 stubborn nuts) felt better than I ever thought possible :)

UH-OH, another victim has fallen to the power of the sawsall.

Never Ever Use A Compression Fitting On Brake Lines If You Do You Are Taking Your Life As Well As Others And Rolling The Dice.
