TJ transfer case question

I know its kinda tech but not totally xj related so here's my question. Will a 97+ xj tranfer case bolt into a 05 tj without much trouble? My friends 05 tj (auto, think its still I6 but not sure) was in 4 hi travelling on the road when he slide off into a snow bank. Since then his tcase is stuck in 4hi. It seams as though its in 2 hi based on lever inside the cab and outside (saw it shift underneath) but if u try to put it into N it fights and doesn't go. I was going to remove the front driveshaft until I had time to really look into fixing/swapping tcases but it didn't seam at a quick glance that the driveshaft comes off at the tcase front. This is causing me to second guess if an xj one works. Talking to xjbump he said it should minus the fact I'll need to take the front seal off the old tcase and put it on the replacement. Anyone actually done this before?

The clocking is different, forget which way though, I think the TJ TC puts it up higher and tighter to the floor which means massaging an XJ floor when you put one in an XJ.

The clocking is done with the adapter not the t-case.

What adapter ? he wants to put a TJ case in an XJ, when going from a TJ to and XJ the case clocks higher, my best guess is it will clock lower in the TJ which might be an issue with that big assed belly pan, how much I don't know, a couple of washers acting as spacers might solve any problems. Either way it's at most a 20 min try it for fit exercise.

Non-XJ tech would be in "Other tech" which is now called Tow Rig, Trailer, and Other tech. :)

You sure about that? I am pretty sure this would be an XJ t-case going into a TJ.

There is an adapter on the end of the transmission(s).
