Timing Cover Oil Seal

So, I'm sprucing up my tins to re-install on the new 4.0 I just got for my 89 xj. Everything is going great, until I try to remove the little seal on my timing cover. This thing is so corroded, so baked on, so FUBAR that it's gonna take machinery to get the surface clean of this seal! You guys ever run across this, and if so is there some kind of caustic chemical I can dip this thing in to eat away the old seal? Something? Honestly, I've never seen a seal this stuck...it's no wonder I was leaking oil...sheesh.
Any tips are most appreciated.
