This is why you don't off-road H2 Hummers

?

a question and comment.
The lady makes a comment "oh is that where he did it?" assuming someone else had attempted this before.
the question:
What exactly would constitute "pop"ing a tie rod? is that simply break or something worse?

I think he is refering to the funny angle that the left front tire is in at the end of the clip.

I think the lesson is: Lighter is better.

The tie rods are what hold the tires running parallel to each other. That is why you see the passenger side tire turn while the other doesn't. To answer your question on wheter this is a bad break or not, it really depends. Tie rods and tie rod ends are not extremely expensive, but not cheap either. It isn't hard to fix, especially if it is a tie rod end. Since this guy is driving an H2, I don't think it is going to hurt him too bad monetarlly.

Rght click on the link and select ....save target as.. and save it to your hard drive. Then veiw it from your hard drive once it is done downloading.

Great clip. I hate H2s.

Give the guy a little credit! At least he's off-road! Granted, he was dumb enough to blow 50 grand on it - but he's offroad - which tells me he didn't buy it just to try to convince everyone at starbucks that he's outdoorsy and not just a desk jockey who's never had his hands dirty. Now, maybe he is trying to convince HIMSELF of that... but whatever - at least this guy was on a trail when he broke it - as opposed to all the soccer-moms on cell-phones who manage to run it into poles or other cars or whatnot. At least this guy didn't destroy his H2 by trying to jump over a statue. (this actually happened! some lady rammed into a huge statue when she tried to jump it by hitting a foot-tall curb at 50 mph! no joke).

All that to say, give the guy a break. It just goes to show what we have always said - IFS is weak (although, when was the last time you saw a real hummer's suspension broke?) and H2's are just not designed to do what they claim they are. Oh well.... at least the Wrangler will have a solid axle for at least a few more years.
