Well, like Costanza, I too am dreaming of my own summer goals. Mine do not include a block of cheese the size of a car battery. Ever since graduating from college my teaching jobs have required that I work the summers. This is the first job I've had where I have them off. I would like to make a decent size expedition. What I'm hoping is to be able to spend a month or more on the road. I'm not looking to wheel. I would be doing this to satisfy my desire to fish much of the great water of the west. I am giving serious thought to a trek North to Alaska. I need help with the logistics of it all. I'm not even sure where to begin. I know there would be a mountain of spare parts to bring. Probably similar to the lists I find when searching that are meant to be included in wheeling trips?
Is it possible to make the drive from CO to AK? I suppose you could fly in and then rent a vehicle but I bet that's spensive. I know it would take a week minimum to get their driving though. Probably be a sweet drive though. Anyone with experience on a longer trip like this? I know Handlebars has done some crazy stuff but I've never heard of anyone on here talk about a trip that far North. It's 3500 miles from here. I guess a month would be the shortest time to be able to stop and smell the roses. Anyone have experiences you can share?

If its fishing you lust after then Alaska would be the place. my friend went this summer and with the pics he brought back I was envious. Unbelivable fishing,salmon,halibut etc. damn guys in 1 day of "bad results" as he called it had some 500 lbs of Halibut between 4 fish. Made wanna beat his ass.
They flew up and used all alaskan outdoors as their guide service. Said they spent about $2500 each over 7 days including air/car/foor/room/guide,everything.
The way I see it the drive up woule be icing on the cake, but would require some time. The road up as I hear is decent these days(summer not winter).
Be an adventure of a lifetime.

Yeah you can drive to Alaska. If you have ever had a OUI/DUI/DWI your not going to be allowed into Canada without special permission though.

Interesting to know about the DWI thing. I've never had any problems like that. If I were to drive it and make it up to Anchorage, where to then? I do not want to be on a boat while fishing. I prefer the river/stream thing. Wouldn't mind leaving the rig and doing some hiking. Do you know of any place I can get info. on that? It would be really cool to head far North along the Pipeline Highway (is that right?) but that really extends the trip and invites the possibility of trouble being that isolated for that long with a vehicle to rely on. Not sure what the best way to go about it would be. Someone mentioned the possibility of ferrying the Jeep into Anchorage but I haven't researched it yet. I'm just planning ahead here. I have to take a class at Western State this June in Gunnison, CO. After that, I have a month and a half to play. The only thing I wish I had on my Jeep for a trip like that is a winch. I think I'm pretty set other than that. I hate to put off the trip too long or my Jeep will have a boatload of miles and then I'll worry about it.
