The scumbag is back

About a year ago we had somebody in the neighborhood loosening lug nuts on vehicles, my daughter was driving her brothers when the rear wheel came off, missed a bridge abutment by 20ft, all his lugs were loose that time too. The lugs on my XJ were all loose too as well as her TJ. Well, it happened again, only this time she lost the left front and almost flipped it, all the lugs were loose as well as the spare, so it looks like the scum is back. State police showed up and we filed a report and I asked them who has been in jail during that time period and just got out.
I did mine too before I left with a floor jack and new lugs to go to stroudsburg where it happened on 611, mine were backed off about 3 turns each so I retorqued them to a 100ft/lbs. Guess I camp out with the model 12 for the next few nites again just like last time and keep the big 1/2" torque wrench near the door so we check them every morning for the next few weeks. My sons was not touched but he was at his girlfriends till 2am or so.

So are you going to get motion detectors? Electric shock wheels? Guard Dog? Pictures of Beej Babes taped to the tires?
===

Note to everyone: Don't get a golden retriever for a guard dog. Mine will bark at other dogs, but will snooze at anyone else. I got my tires slashed last year and didn't hear a peep out of him.

Locking lugs are a joke, next time you go get some look at the end of the display, you will see a 'kit' for 'locking lug nut removal' on the same rack sold by the company that makes the locking lug nuts...

That being said....this joker isn't trying to steal your wheels. I doubt he is going to buy a kit just to loosen your lugnuts.

The locks were backed out too on hers, I don't have any but then I don't have fancy wheels either and my bfg at's are mounted black side out. I know hers were tight two weeks ago when I rotated and retorqed them then checked them a couple of days later. They also got checked last week when I noticed the air was a bit low on two of them, did that while the 12v pump was buzzing along taking them backup to 35psi. If I catch somebody I hope they resist...I'm in a butt stroking mood right now..

That's incredible. Go to Harbor Freight and pick up their cheapo security camera, and get some floodlights with motion sensors.

Nothing is worth your family being harmed.

I'd bet its one of your neighbors or someone in your area. Definately male and probably older than 16.

Dunno - you've got that 1/2" torque wrench handy. Get in a good swing, and I bet you could retorque his brainpan seal and get the point across far more effectively (besides, that makes it "heat of the moment" rather than "premeditated," and therefore easier to defend your actions. If the later decision - for what to do with you - were up to me, I'd probably end up asking "Why didn't you just shoot the little @()#$*%@?" Problem is, this country is increasingly run by a bunch of nancies who don't understand defending their families...)

Since an extensive beating would be difficult to defend as well, I suggest you get some practise in on your "power punches" and jap slaps - as well as any other good strong strike where you can do a lot of damage with only one motion. Also easier to defend.

(Can you tell I've spent a lot of time getting acquitted for "self defense?")

Unfortunately, your Jeeps are parked outdoors. 12-gauge sounds great, but I believe PA is a "duty to retreat" state, and unlike Texas you are not legally empowered to use lethal force to protect property at night.

I'd skip the motion sensors and camp out with a handgun and a camera. Catch him sneaking around, snap a picture or three, and then if he comes at you instead of running away you have a better justification for popping his sorry ***. If he does run away, you have his mug shot for the police.

Next question is to zero in on who might want to do this and why? Is he hitting only your family, or is he hitting other houses in the neighborhood as well? If only your family, ask your kids to think back to the first time it happened, and if they can think of anyone at school they might have torquesd the wrong way who might feel a twisted need to "get even."

yea man i was about to pitch in and say too bad u aint in texas. law is here that if you have reason to believe your life is in danger on ur own property, u got the right to do whatcha gotta do...i.e. pump him full of buck shot

used to happen to my brother.......a few well placed large capacity capaciters placed to ground and hot to the rim stopped it from happening again.....If Irecall correctly the perp ran off screaming like a little girl and left "skin" on the tire iron abandoned at the scene, must have been quite a burn from the shock

scumbag is too light a term

I'd say attempted murder, 3 times, and I'd have a head on a spike in the front yard when after attempt #4 came around. If I were any closer I would volunteer to camp out and use "necessary force" to detain said assailant until proper authorities arrived.

2x4's to the face hurt a lot. I would go that route. And yes, I have experienced it.

A more serious possiblity might be something with some trip wire around your cars. Hook it up to an alarm in your house. That way its not like a flood light coming on and the kid runs away, you might actually be able to catch him. Just a thought.

Also remember that most states have 'laying in wait' laws that mean you have to unintentionally catch the person in the act before they can be beaten senseless. So, let's say you decided at 3am that you really needed that CD you left out in the car and happened to see the little turd en route to it, at which point you picked up the 12-gauge on the way over - that would probably be acceptable, but jumping him from the bushes may not be. Just a thought.
