stuck Tj might need help

I was coming down gold camp into colorado springs with a TJ behind me, when I came to such a terribly icy section that I did a 180 into a rut just feet from a chevy pickup that made the same slide, only at over 30mph. The chevy is really messed up. I rubbed up against the chevy passing it, but the TJ driver didn't feel as confident passing the chevy and left his up there. I drove everyone down in my XJ on BFG at's. No visible damage to my XJ, but I did get to use my winch 4 times today pulling other vehicles.

Would chains help out much in this situation? Lots of fresh snow on top of a icy pack surface, on top of a well graded dirt road that is also off camber. The downhill side is blocked by a chevy pickup (although I might just pull him out tomorrow too)

oh, the TJ has 31x10.50 bfg at's, and the chevy also has some bfg at's of some size...

if the conditions are that bad, if you have not already done this, lower the air pressure down to 12lbs for added traction. PLEASE note that you should not drive over 15 or 20mph with the air down this low. With the lower pressure you will find marked improvement with traction. PS, if you have chains they will surely help with traction.

Chains definitely help on ice and packed snow. Just remember that they only help with forward movement, they don't give much sideways traction.

Sounds like a fun drive, I was having fun with the wife's WJ tonight. In two inches of slush, it goes great. :)

I pulled him out, but it took about an hour of work

Was coming down that night and saw both of those trucks on the side. Got out to take a closer look and could barely walk without falling over. We decided to turn around and go through Cripple Creek. May seem a little extreme, but I've never seen it that slippery before and I wasn't going to risk wrecking my "new" XJ the first time out wheeling in it. That Chevy was pretty messed up. You can air down to nothing and it won't make a difference when it's that bad.
