stroker question/problem

a quick question... tried searching but couldn't find anything. also searched/posted on yahoo strokers group.

I'm building a 4.0 stroker using the 258 crank, 242 rods and Accurate Power pistons. I went to get the piston pins pressed in today and was told that the small end of the rod, if the pin was installed, would interfere with the underside of the piston, i.e.: the piston wouldn't "rock" back & forth atop the rod. There is a protrusion (part of the casting) that is machined flat on top of the rod that is interfering... can this be safely ground down a bit?

I have verified that the rods are oriented correctly according to the FSM, and the piston dish is oriented in the same direction as the old pistons.

am I the only one that this has happened to? probably :)

thanks-
Chuck

That is what is used to balance the rods,it can be removed as long as you have the rods rebalanced afterward. No info as to the stroker portion!

That protrusion is the balancer pad on the small end of the rod. It doesn't interfere with stock type 4.0 pistons but the custom forged pistons such as Accurate Power's have a shorter pin height and that's the reason for the interference. You can have the balancer pad ground off. Just make sure that it's done equally on all six rods and weigh the small ends afterwards to verify that the weights are matched.
