Still looking for an XJ

Hey all,
well the Jeep gods struck and the XJ I was gonna buy fell through so I am still looking for an 87 or newer XJ in the 1200 price range. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks
Dan

Check with Rob (Maximus), her knew a lady in the lower central valley that had an 87 or 88' with a dana 44 for sale for $800. Check autotrader, local papers, jeep-classifieds.com, Sac Bee, etc. Try to get a 4.0L, auto tranny AW4, and a 231 t-case, maybe a dana 44 rear axle if you get a 87-89' with the tow package. It is pretty rare to get a dana 44 from a cherokee stock, but you might get 1 if you look for an 87'-88', many people don't know what they have. A dana 44 alone goes for $350-500 or so and is stronger and better than a dana 35. The 8.25 with 29 splines (stock 97'+) isn't a bad axle either, but a dana 44 has much more options for aftermarket performance mods and is stronger.

check my post about a week back about the MJ for sale. It's still listed in the newspaper, so I'm assuming it hasn't sold and they would probably be willing to haggle a bit. if I had $1500, I would go over there with cash and try to drive away with it.

Thanks Brett, but i really need an XJ for the familyoutings. An MJ probably wouldn't work. Thanks again!
Dan you can strap the little one in back! :gag:

Sorry that other XJ deal fell apart, take your time, and get a good one. You don't want to end up with one like mine!

That is true, but I have got air in it, and flopped it once or twice. Some one has the video of me jumping the XJ I will see if I can get that posted. Oh and Sorry Dan for HighJacking your post, but I am keeping an eye out for an XJ for you. You try Joe, Mark, and that hills angles group? They had a board, I know there out of Reno but worth a shot.

PM'd you David! As for finding an XJ. I think I did and will be picking it up tomorrow. Bone stock at the moment but it is an 86.5 that just went fuel injected on the 4.0, has a huge amount of miles 247000, but i plan on sticking a rebuilt in it. After I do an RE 3.5, rockcrawler wheels with a 4.5 BS, and some super swamper LTBs (31x11.5/15) I should be good to start out. now I just need to find a lock-right for under a 200:)

I belive someone else saw the XJ that I was gonna get posted here and picked it up the day after I saw it. It was sitting in the lot forever and I find it qwirky that someone just happened to pick it up after I posted that I was going to buy it the next day. The dealer said the guy saw it online . . . and he never put it online. Strange? oh well. Hope that person enjoys it and may the Jeep gods look down on him with an evil eye.

Did someone get the one I told you about?

Yeah, the one in woodland was ready for me and the guy was holding it, but on his dayoff, someone came in and said they saw the XJ online and wanted to buy it quick. Oh well, gonna go pick up the other one today. It has a lot of miles, but I will have to rebuild the 4.0 as soon as I get the chance (probably this winter after tax returns:).

Thanks for the info though. Since we are so close, we will have to hook up sometime and do the Bear Valley Loop or Imigrant Trail, hell I'll even try that State park in Sacto (never been) for a quick day trip.
