steering lock?

What year XJ?

'97+ columns don't lock........ I just went out to check and neither the '97 nor the '01 I have here at the house lock.

LOL...... this is one of those things I've never really paid attention to. When I first read the original post, I coulda sworn they all locked. But neither of the two here do - has me scratchin' my noggin' now........ :dunno:

I do know that if your power isn't shutting off when the lock cylinder is put into "lock" position and the key is removed, the rod and pin inside the rod that runs from the back of the lock cylinder across to the ignition switch on the left side of the column is likely busted or rotated somehow..... or the ign. switch assembly is busted. Definitely a complicated design in the '97+ columns.

Great.. Should be fun to diagnose. I haven't really messed with it much yet, its in the garage tore down while I finish the front end rebuild. I recharged the battery and left the negative term unhooked.
