Steering column will be the death of me!!

OK so sweet Jesus, I took on the task of fixing my steering column slop of the bolts near the tilt mechanism on my 89. After reading and watching some you tube, I figured it would be accomplish-able. After tearing everything down to the tilt spring and the tilt pins, I realized I could not figure a way to get those pins out. I read there was a special tool to remove these. Does anyone have any home brew methods of this? Or where can I buy this tool. Secondly, when I went to put everything back together, once defeat was acknowledged, I COULD NOT figure out how that black piece fits/stays against the turn signal and the metal curved bar that pushes forward to activate the high beams. Oh yeah, now my turn signals don't shut off now when the wheel is turned. Please, any help or experience with this would be awesome!! Thanks

Keep at it, you'll get it. I think I have a thread on here somewhere about it. You can get the tool at any parts store. It's for a chevy column. Just ask. It's common. I had to tear mine down and put it together three times before I got it right, and even now, the ignition lock doesn't work. Google repairing chevy tilt columns. There is one with lots of pictures that helps. I feel your pain.

I'll have to look, but I think I have a good tilt column in my parts pile....... if you can't get yours fixed.

Troy, at this point, that sounds like a better option than trying to fix this crap!! Fred, if you can find a link to that thread that would be great! I googled the crap out of this and couldn't find anything on NAXJA. This is rediculous. The ignition lock still works but I can turn my wheel 360 degrees and the blinker doesn't shut off. And I have to switch my hi beams by hand now without the turn signal cover on.
