Speedometer cable.......94XJ

Ok I know it does not have one. But it does have an electrical cable that plugs into the speed ssensor and then plugs somewhere else. Neither of my harnesses that I got have this cable and the person I got them from does not have another one. I think I may have lost it some In the swap. So, can anyone get me a part number for this so I can price it at the dealer? (They claim there is no listing for it.) And where does it connect to the engine harness? (Just in case I am missing it and its tied up to something!) TIA! But the way this engine seems to be running well now. I drove it a couple of times this weekend. I'm hoping to get the vacume disconnect working soon so I can test the t/case more!

BTT. So Anyone able to help? I think the 91-96 are the same.

Anyone, care to help? How about a parts pig in the yard? 91-96?

This may not help but on the XJs with a six cylinder engine the speed sensor harness plugs into the speed sensor and the transfer case shift indicator and then goes up along the firewall to a connector at the back of the engine on the right side.

That helps but what does the connector look like? 6 pin? 3 pin? Color? Also, the dealer does not sell the speedsensor cable seperate. Does anyone have one laying around? Ha, Ha! I can dream!

I'm going 'yard hopping Saturday and I know there are a few XJ's w/ electric speedos nearby. I'll scope out the circuits and let you know what I find. Do you need any parts specifically? Lemme know and I can pull/ship to ya...

Yes! specifically there is a three pronged plug for the speed sensor on the tail of the tcase. I think it is the same from 91-96. That cable then runs to the engine harness. Not sure what plug it goes to there though. Unless your U-pull its are different the ones down here only have the older XJ's in them. If you come across and front disconnect vacume motors I could use one of them too. (It does not matter if the vacume motor works or not.) Thanks! I've called three yards here today and they all say the same thing. "We cut the harness when we strip em!" ARGH! So many yards are like this and it drives me nuts!

The cable in question has 3 pin connector for the speed sensor and a 2 pin connector for the transfer case 4 wheel drive indicator. The 93 wiring harness that I have has a six pin connector on the other end of which 5 are used. The connector is black and connects next to the auto tranny control wires at the back right side of the engine. I just checked a 91 harness that had the disconnect axle and the connector was more to the right and shared a harness with the front axle disconnect motor. This cable was damaged in the wreck that it came from and some of it was missing. I also have a 95 harness but couldn't locate the harness you need. I probably left it hooked up to the engine harness that I sold with the head and fuel injection stuff.

I looked under a 92 2WD hoping it would have the same connector but it did not appear to be the right one. It looked like it was a 2 pin connector.

I am in the middle of swapping an older 231 into a 96 XJ. I will look at the connectors tomorrow and make a note. I do remember taking a stiff 2 wire sensor out and putting my newer 3 wire one back into the older 231. I have the actual sensor (2 wire) if you need it. It has an orange gear on it and looks intact. I ended up using my 3 wire with the green gear. If this is what you need, let me know and I'll throw it in the mail rather than the garbage. I believe the 2-wire one has a black and white wire on it. Let me double check this tomorrow.

Ok, if you are going to throw it away I'll take it. I'm kinda collecting parts. I have a couple of three pin speed sensors. What I really need it the 3 pin wire. Jeff in Va. I going to try and find one while he is in the yards this weekend.
