I’m redoing the sound system in my jeep and I have a question for you guys! I saw a pre-fab box that you can get for the passenger side in the back, It only holds a 8” inch sub, I want to go this route because I need my cargo space and don’t want a box in the back,. But I was wondering if anyone knows if they rattle or how it looks basically what you all think??

they work great. I have a buddy that has one for a 10" sub that he is selling. PM me if interested

These are not the same Beast. They essentially made two for the XJ. One is no longer made, and the other came into production longer after it's predecessor. The first being a JL Vantage box; made to hold a 10" sub, this was a very well designed and built piece. It was discontinued years ago and can prove difficult to get your hands on. The second, still available as it is a semi-new item, is the XJ Pod. Short and sweet, it's a piece of crap. Made out of cheap materials and rattles like a sun of a bitch. Off the top of my head I don't know who makes the pod other then it's no one you'd recognize.

If you are serious about your audio setup, hold out for a JL Vantage box(or you might get lucky as it sounds like this guy's buddy might have one). Though know that it will run you a few bills. If not, spring for the XJ Pod and just get used to the horrible rattle and sound. Or until you get fed up with it enough to chuck it in the dumpster. Good luck with whichever you choose.

This looks good. I think its for a 10in

That looks pretty nice. I just got done fibergalssing a box for that area. It didn't come out too great as it was only my second fiberglass experience, but it works with very minimal rattle. I will try and get a few pics uploaded tomorrow. Also, fiberglassing is pretty fun once you get the idea!

Well, it is nothing special but it hits alright ofr an 8"... There are alot of good websites with great write-ups but here is a quick one...
This is not a How To but rather a short intro...
First you have to tape off your area like so...note:Usually a fiberglassed box would replace the entire panel so the speaker box become the new panel. However, I just used this nice little space and worked from there. This was first mistake...I will discuss later.

Then you mix your resin with the hardener, take your fiberglass weave (~3x3" pieces) and use a paint brush to spread the resin onto the weave and onto your mold. You want to overlap as much as possible and use more weave on the flat surfaces as fiberglass is stronger in the bends and weaker when it is flat.

When it is dryed you have to pop the mold out. This can be tough, but try and pry from different spots so you don't crack your new box! Remove the tape and then cut the rough edges around to fit. I used the black line you can see in the first 2 pics as a reference.

Next, you use wooden dowels and hot glue to mount the o-ring where you want your speaker to sit. Use alot of hot glue as you don't want it moving. You need a good sized piece of fleece to stretch over the o-ring. You can use 3M adhesive to get the fleece to stick to the back of your mold and stretch it so that it fits snug around the o-ring. This is going to the front of your speaker box now. Once snug, you fiberglass away! Mix the resin again and generally apply the resin to the fleece. The reason my box didn't come out too great is because the fleece started to move on me. Make sure it is really glued down tight to the back of the box. Also, because the mold was going in the tight area, the fiberglass that dried on the back of the edges made the box different than the mold originally made. Thus, the box doesn't sit flush in its mounting area. However, I used some dynamat type stuff to fill in the area and it doesn't look bad. Then again this is a Jeep and I didn't care too much, haha.

I am trying to get pics of the finished product but my computer is being odd!

Here's the one I did out of MDF. I made it a bit deeper than originally planned but works great. You could do something similar and would probably work better with a 10" but got the 12" for free..
