Well after several years it's come to the point to build Smokey 2.0. After a cracked unibody at the steering box the XJ had pretty much become useless. :tears:
But......When something breaks we get to build it better, right?! :guitar:
Enter the symphony of power tools, f bombs and bloody knuckles.
I've had the idea for a while with what I wanted to do with my rig, but since the jeep wheeled fine never took the dive into getting it done. What I want to do is, chop the back off, stretch the wheel base (unsure of how far, maybe 110"), put an exo on and build my own suspension. Will be running a HP D44 up front, Ford 9" in the rear, 35's, 5.13's, air lockers, 3 link, 52 or 63 chevy springs in the rear with sliders. My goal is to hopefully have it done by next summer, but progress will be a little slow. Hoping this summer to get the exo and body work done.
Started this weekend by stripping the old axles off.
As Smokey was before
Crack
Axles off!
Rough idea of where I want to wheel base to be.
