All this damned smoke is killing me. My throat hurts, my apartment stinks(more than normal), and I haven't been out on my bike in over a week. Went out to San Francisco on Monday night just to get some relatively clean air. I will probably head over there on BART tonight with my bike for a ride. I wish this stuff ould all just blow away.

it sucks...

yesterday it was so bad on my way into work that the sun was RED, and i could stare right at it without glasses like nothing was wrong...

kinda reminded me of when I went to Alaska for a month in 2004 - the sun never really went down at night, just kinda got 'dimmer'...

Ya I am working up in Petaluma and it is REALLY bad up here. Cant even see the hills.

Chico is so socked in with smoke that it looks like it is foggy. We are right in the middle of all the fires. It sucks.

X2...I am getting sick of running the A/C at night because of the heavy smoke that has been here since the humboldt fire that went right behind the house. the latest is that they are figuring this is going to last until the 9th or so of July.

The vis is horrible in the eastern Sierras. I think its around 4-5 miles max.

Yeah redding has been socked in ever since the thunderstorms Saturday. Chico's got it bad too. I can't see any mountains, west, east or north that surround us. And ash falls like snow. Nasty tasting snow :(

I am actually from the Northwest Chapter and was planning on attending Northwest Fest which is this weekend. Got my Jeep all tuned and ready to go. Spent hours getting it all ready. However, my phone rang couple hours ago and I am headed down to Happy Camp to work on the fireline! Siskiyou Complex here I come! Oh the joys of constantly being on call...

I thought I might jump on your guys' chapter and see if you were talking about all the fires and sure enough!

Since you are on our board, I blame YOU for all of the fires. It does suck but it's fun to go wheeling after they are done and go see what all they have done. Stay safe trying to keep the rest of us safe.

haha, will do. Safety is number one. Every fire I have been on I have wished that I could have gone back later in my Jeep just to wheel on the roads and dozer trails that were made... Seen alot of good ones! I will do my best to keep your neck of the woods nice and green perfect for when you are wheeling! And clear the air out a bit... You think it's bad from where you are... Try right at the fire... haha

Well I talked to the GIS guy in Mendocino and he said they had 131 known fires in Mendocino alone. My Mom is in Lake County and said it has been snowing ash there an visibility is bad. On my way home today in Sacramento I would say I could see about 3 Miles to downtown. Its bad up here

I called the AWOS(automated weather observation system) for McClellan airport(sac area) and its reporting visibility at 3miles. Sonoma area is at about 7 miles. It's pretty bad but the sun looks amazing when its setting on the coast, a bright red color.

Good luck to the firefighters and thanks for doing what you do!

Spent the past week (Sunday through Thursday) camping at Zephyr Cove on Lake Tahoe. Spent a couple hundred bucks on a boat cruise and could not see the mountains from the lake. Spent even more money on the Heavenly gondola to the top of the mountain and could barely see the lake from the top (over 9,000 feet).

When you promise your kids you'll take them on these cool trips, you have to follow through. Meanwhile you think of all the XJ parts you could have bought for the money spent looking at smoke from spectacular vantage points.

:bawl:

Its been bad here for probably 2 weeks now. It started to clear up on some mornings but as soon as noon came around it all rolled back in real thick. I noticed I have a hard time catching my breath with all this smoke.

A friend shot this a week ago Friday from Capitola, the Watsonville fire:
