Smaller spare

It's a bad idea if you have a limited slip differential on that axle. The rear spare are can hold up to about a 30/31" tire with a little work, it will fit 225s or 235s easily.

You really shouldn't be in 4wd with a donut.
In fact, I think one of the biggest reasons for 4wd parts failures (especially on Full-Time 4x4s) is different inflation pressures. That different diameter, created by varying pressures, has to be made up somewhere unless you can slip a tire on occasion - sand, water, ice, etc, - there is a "bind" built up by the difference.
I had an old Subaru BRAT that went through outside axle assemblies w/in about my first three months. I knew the former owners, and they insisted it was OK to run in 4x4 (front-wheel drive all the time, rear wheels kicked in 4x4) in the rain and during the winter.
I had to replace ALL 4 of the axle shafts - $200/pop - by the time I finally got the license plates.
Don't go far with a donut, and don't go into 4x4, please!
Also, if you have ABS, it screws everything up, I would think.
mfrs use donuts cuz they're cheap, lighter, more room. They don't have to drive 400 miles to grandmas in the snow w/one!

Thanks for the input, the reason that i was asking is that the tires that came with it suck (wrangler rts p225)... I have 26000 miles on them and they need to be replaced soon (before hunting season).. I want to put LT 235 BFG AT KO's on it... Since i have that stupid donut i was thinking about hanging on to one/two of the original p225 tires to mount on another rim for a spare..

The difference between a 225 and 235 isn't all that much. Even if it isn't perfect your idea beats the donut by a large margin.

I ran with a 235 spare and 31's for quite a while. I ended up with a blown bead and had to drive out with it once. It did the job, but I upgraded to a 31 as soon as I could after that.
