 I had such a great time at my first Sierra Fest running Slick Rock and hanging with the gang that I am going back next month. :dunce:

Running it again will be fun and I might even make an attempt at Stair Case.

My plan is to run Slick Rock Saturday and then possibly do a little of the Deer Valley run on Sunday. Maybe it will be open by then. It is possible Hasta

Anyway all are encouraged to come as this could be the last camping/wheeling of the year in the high Sierra.

i'll say maybe for this trip.
are you thinking of setting up camp there?

Yes I am hoping the camp grounds are still open and I am going up Friday afternoon to set up and get ready for the weekend.

It would be great to have you along.

I might be able to make this. Might already be up there closing the cabin for the winter anyways.

Itd be great to get out there and wheel with you guys again!

I just hope that we make it in under the wire as far as a camp grounds being open.

It looks like Lake Alpine stays open until mid Oct. and Hermit Valley maybe longer but it is hard to tell.

Anyone have information on when they close?

Hermit Valley will close when they close the Hwy 4 pass due to snow (they physically shut the gate). Not sure if they close the Lake Alpine campsites on a hard date or the first snow. Give the ranger station a call:
Calaveras District
5519 Highway 4
PO Box 500
Hathaway Pines, CA 95233
(209) 795-1381

I'm in with a very solid maybe. I'm thinking this might make a good first real rock crawling trip for my Daughter and her TJ since it was reborn and rose from the ashes, lol. See this link - http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1090132

As long as the Hwy is open, and I'm sure it will be we could camp at the end of the trail before the bridge. There are some great sites there.

Thank you Josh I will give them a call and see what they know.

Dave a solid maybe's good. Looking at what your Daughter's TJ went through, The B52's Come In From The Wreckage keeps running through my brain.

I though everone knew who Bob was! Get out the Road to movies and set her down for some good time fun.

We are a definate go. So far there are three of us, me in my heep, a built TJ and my Daughter's mild TJ (32's, armor).

We'd like to come up from the Galt/Lodi area early Sat. morning. Run the trail and camp at the end of the trail at one of the great spots along the river before the bridge.

How's this sound? Any ideas as far as meeting up?

So my plan is my buddy, coming from Maxwell, in his not so built Land Cruiser and I are going up Friday and camping at Lake Alpine, then Saturday running from Lake Alpine to Stair Case and back. Sunday, maybe, do a little of Deep Valley then go home.

It would be great to start around 9 so we can get off the trail by 5 because we are falling back next weekend and it will start getting darker earlier.

This could dovetail with what you are doing, don't you think?

Absolutely. We can be up there by 9am and run the trail with you guys, you can run it back and we'll stay at the river sites.

Are you guys going up the steps?

My thought is to run it but I will have to see how I feel when I get there.

Well hello, I am glad there will be some fellow Jeeps up at slick rock the weekend of Oct 13-14th. I am planning on going in friday night and staying at the south side of slick rock trail by the river until Monday. I have had the XJ for a year now and I need to take it camping and relax for the weekend before snow.
I plan on running the trail maybe friday night and for sure saturday. Trip to deer valley might be nice since I have never been there.
What CB channel are people using.
I have White XJ on 35s MTRS.

It will be great to meet you John. I am staying in Lake Alpine Campground starting Friday night as this will be only my third time there and I don't know my way around that well yet. :farmer:

Also, I will be with a not so built Toy Land Cruiser so Stair Step might be an issue for us so we will meet at 9 and start at 9:30 from the north end, west of Lake Alpine. :eyes:

Lets use channel 16 to communicate. :callme:

Hey Skipper, I will be tuned to channel 16. I might still try to make it down by the stair steps friday night and camp in that area. I have run the trail many times in my cj5 15 yrs ago but this will be a first in many years and a first in the XJ. Maybe I will try to make it up to the lake by 9-930 that morning and come back down the trail with you. I cant wait to get away for a nice weekend.

Starting to get excited about going back to Slick Rock.

Looked up the weather and here is what I found:

Friday Partly sunny, with a high near 58.
Friday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40.
Saturday Mostly sunny, with a high near 63.
Saturday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.
Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 64.
Sunday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45.

So, that being said it should be a great weekend weather wise and will be one of the last wheeling weekends without snow.
